Question About Motorcycle Riders

Recommended Posts

Why do they always wave at each other? I use to ride a bike many moons ago and never could figure out why complete strangers waved at me just because of the vehicle I was on. Anyone know how this originated? And why is it that Harley riders will wave at Harley riders and sport bike riders will wave sport bike riders but seldom do Harley riders and sport bike riders wave at each other? And how come nobody's waves at the dudes on scooters?

Just some things on my mind :D

Maybe you should sell the scooter and get a real bike :blob9:

Boaters, at least on my lake do the same. I used to ride many years ago. I think it's kind of a brotherhood thing.

Who said I owned a scooter? Which I don't. Figured it was a 2 wheeled thing and noticed no one ever waves at them.

It's a brotherhood thing. Also Harleys and crotch rockets don't mix. Hence why the Harley riders choose to ignore them. It's very annoying watching them zip around and through any and every thing. As for the scooters, I really have no idea. They travel in packs 10 deep around here. It's like a geriatric mc gang.

I wonder if the scooter riders have nicknames? You know like "blue hair the horrible", "Johnny No Teeth", and what not.

In the rural area I live in everyone waves at each other when they pass on the road. When I first moved here about 10 years ago it took me a little while to get used to it, but I learned pretty quick when I got to Church and one of the older ladies fussed at me for not "speaking" to her when I passed her on the road. Now, I just drive with my hand up, in the "howdy" position!

Its a brotherhood thing. I see it in car guys also.

Raider is right about knee dragers and v-twin guys not getting along. Here in WI were Harley was born people think there the best bike in the world. You get a few knee dragers, jap crusiers, and v-twin boys together. You better have 911 ready. It will not end in a good way. They all think one is better then the other. They all have there up and downs.

One day I would love to own a knee drager with a Harley. This is coming from a guy that grew up in a Harley house. I also have a Harley engine inked on me. There are times were I would love to go to the track and have fun. Can't really do that on a slow heavy Harley.

You can tell the new guys by how they wave, for example the roads around Sturgis. The new "bikers" still want to wave? Everyone is on a bike stop it!

Back in the 60's I had quite a few bikes, and it is a brotherhood thing. Harley's were basically a cult bike, the Sportsters of the 60's were not really that good a bike, slow, heavy and could take forever to kick over with that magneto, the ones of today are vastly improved. My Japanese bikes, especially my Kawi 500 would run circles around my Harley and was way more dependable, but there was always that Harely mystic, no foreign bike could match. My most favorite bike was my Norton Matchless.

That used to make me laugh every time I was out riding. The Harley guys would wave when they saw the 20" ape hangers and feet up on forward controls, but then they'd do a double-take as I went by...
