The Original Spook is actually a pretty good sized bait.  I have caught bass on this bait that were maybe 1/2 an inch longer than the lure itself.  I recommend you getting one of these.  Although its a pretty good sized topwater, it quietly swims on top and sometimes that can really be the ticket when the water is calm or has a really light chop.

In my opinion the Super Spook Jr. is probably the best all around size.  The rattles make it the easiest to cast although none of them are all that challenging.  This is my favorite spook size. 

I have seen some nice fish caught on the puppy but overall, it is a total dink magnet.  Really subtle little bait.  Also the hardest to work because of its size. 

As for the rod: 

I fish all of my topwaters on a 6' Medium Action/Power rod.  Personally, I like the short length because I point the tip at the water while walking the dog and longer rods smack the boat and/or touch the water. 

i throw my junior spook on my crankin rod because i tend to yank the thing out a bit to soon when i get a strike.  ;D

I throw the spook and the spook junior.  They both catch fish for me.  I like the junior a lot but can't cast it as far as the regular spook.

I've only tried the original Spook. It's always caught fish, so I never saw the need to downsize. I use a 7' medium/fast rod.

Falcon

I've fished all three freshwater sizes and much prefer the "Super Spook JR." at 3-1/2" x 1/2oz.

I use heavy spinning tackle that easily handles the 7/8oz Super Spook,

but on so-so days, it doesn't raise as many bass as the Spook JR. (everything works on good days)

As for the Zara Puppy, it's just too small for my liking.

They are all great baits the sizes depend on what size bait the fish are eating, they all have a time of the year that they work well. I am a Zara Spook junkie and have all sizes the pooch, pup, jr, spook and super spook, and will use them all at some point during the year.

I like both the Spook and the Super Spook. I have also had great success with the Puppy on farm ponds, but would agree that most of the time it is a dink catcher. The bigger ones I throw on a 6'6" M/F baitcast set up. The puppy on a 6'6" M/F spinning rig.

If you all tried the spooks and enjoyed them, try the magnum, it will were you out but it surely produces, some really choice fish.Yes I know we are in different parts of the world, but you never know.Especially when you have a 3inch bass hit a 6 or 8 inch bait,whats up with that, big mouth greed.And if that's to much toss a wounded spook.Prop Bait if you are wondering, what, because I just found out about it myself.Always wanted to see something like this come out,and here it is.

I use a 6'3" Cabelas XML MF baitcast rod for topwaters, and jerkbaits, with 12lb. Trilene XL. I love the spook at night at smaller pressured local lakes, works like a champ.
