When and under what conditions do you use topwaters? I want to know what topwater for what conditions.

I have only caught fish on the pop-r usually before a storm hits.

Many are going to say that topwaters are best for low light conditions ( dawn/dusk ), that 's what conventional wisdom says .......and it ain 't exactly the Truth ( yeah with capital T ), why ? because I 've fished for years and in multiple ocassions with topwaters with great success when conventional wisdom says you shouldn 't.

So as usual, there 's no such thing as "the best", you got to try until you determine that the topwater approach may not be the most accurate for that time, place and conditions.

I divide my topwaters depending upon what I 'm going to fish, if I 'm going to fish a large surface then I prefer to use baits that can cover a lot of water ( walk the dog type baits or wobblers ), for covering small areas or specific targets then I prefer to choose baits that I can keep in that area for a long period of time ( poppers, prop baits, chuggers ).

I preffer walk the dog types on smooth days, and a devils horse on slight chop. But honestley they both work anytime.

I use Sammies, G-Splashs, and T-Splashs when ever it is cloudy outside.  I have the most confidence in the G-Splash so I will usually pick it up first no matter if I am fishing in a large area of water or a tight spot.

I like to use them a ton around docks and rip-rap.

Just an FYI, if those clouds turn into rain clouds the bite "should" be even better.

I'll echo what Raul said and add that I'll use them anytime the water's warm enough, perhaps low to mid-50s. I've also caught loads of fish on sunny afternoons, so I have confidence in my topwaters at any time. They don't always work, but I find it's always worth it to at least try them.

just click on fishing articles u can find tons of stuffs that how i learn all about topwater
