Can/do Bass Spawn More Than Once A Season?

Featured Replies

Reason I'm asking is my son is working on a biology paper and he found a source that said a bass will release half her eggs, then a couple weeks later a fourth, and a couple weeks later the last fourth. essentially spawning 3 times. Anyone else hear of this? It's news to me.

This is partial truth. To get the whole story and much more go to the video section and view bass myths.

One buck bass will typically sweep out several beds.

The dead giveaway is that the beds will violate the 20-foot rule of territorialism.

It's much like buck deer that make several buck-rubs within a small area (his area).

Not surprisingly, one ripe cow will visit the beds of several buck bass

and deposit eggs in each. When the bedding season is over, many if not most cow bass

will still be carrying leftover roe. This leads more than a few anglers to believe

that the bass are still spawning.

Watched that vid a few years back. Was a nice refresher course. Just sent the link to my boy.

They can spawn twice a year. It's unlikely but not unheard of.
