Drop Shot Weight?

How heavy is your drop shot weight? I have been fishing a 1/4 oz. and I may go to a 3/8 oz for deeper water?

I start at 3/8 oz. Usually roll with 1/2 oz. Bed fishing, or dragging I might go up to 3/4 or 1 oz. The only time I go light, is when I'm in current, and letting the bait tick downstream.

Well, I use 1/4 oz. for just about all my drop shotting, unless I have to deal with current. Have caught smallies down to 45' with no problems with this size weight.

i use alot of 1/8...i like to go a light as i can go. But i fish mostly 15ft and down

Most all of the time I am using a 3/16th sinker. I see no need to go up heavier than 1/2 oz unless you are fishing heavy current as you will get a lot of snags and you will lose a lot of sinkers. However, 1/4th ounce is a pretty good all around size.

The lightest I can and stay in contact with the bottom. That could be 1/8 or up to 1/2. I once dropshotted for ling cod using a 1 1/2 ounce. My buddies thought I was crazy but the system works, even in salt water.

Try drop shotting with a weight less than 1/2 oz. when the bow of your boat is traveling 10' up and down in the waves.

Drop shot sinker belongs on the bottom, a 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 oz weight goes to, and stays on the bottom. Thats what I use most of the time. 1/4, for shallow water, 3/8 for general purpose, 1/2 in deep water, when I am fishing in my sonar cone, or if it's windy.
