Im looking at getting a new spining and baitcasting reel and a rod for each. Im looking to spend more in the middle price range. Any favorites or suggestions would help!

Mid-Priced Combos

Canean baitcaster, Shimano Sellus Casting Rod

Citica baitcaster, Abu Garcia Veritas Casting Rod

Lew's Speedspool baitcaster, Abu Garcia Vengence Casting Rod

Lew's Tournament MG baitcaster, Rick Clunn S-Glass Casting Rod

Pflueger President spinning reel, Shimano Sellus Spinning Rod

Pflueger Arbor XL spinning reel, Vendetta Spinning Rod

High-Priced Combos

Shimano Curado baitcaster, G-Loomis Bronzeback Casting Rod

Ardent Edge Inshore Pro baitcaster, G-Loomis GL2 Casting Rod

Pflueger Patriarch spinning reel, TFO Gary Loomis Spinning Rod

Those are my favorite combos that I own. Most are under 250$ except the high end combos.

A more exact price range will help tremendously. A middle price range to some could be $100 or $300.

Daiwa Megaforce 100THS Twitchin' Bar with about a 6'6 medium heavy action all star graphite rod, and youll be sittin right to catch some fish. I have this some combo in a 7'0 rod and a 6'6 and the 6'6 feels like it is more versatile. Twitchin bar is cool too.

I agree. A little more info on desired price range would help tremendously.

Lews tournament pro speed spool/ 100-150 dollar rod 300 or less total

Bps pro qualifier.... Same 200 total

Carbonlite rod, veritas, mojo bass, micro magic, powell diesels are 70

lews speed spool and powell or rods, cant beat em if your lookin to spend 250 or so for a great combo. if youre tryin to spend more, stick with lews and go with a dobyns, phenix, falcon, ect.

To me, mid range in rods and reels is $100-$200, and for me that would be a Shimano Citica or Curado casting reels (Chronarch E too I guess at $199), on a St Croix Mojo, Premier, Rage or Avid. Depends on how much you want to spend.

I have no comment on "mid" range spinning reels, I don't spend more than $100 on one. Plenty of good ones in the $50-$80 range to suit me. I feel the same as about the spinning rods as the casting.......St Croix Mojo, Premier, Rage or Avid.

Shimano Sellus? No experience with it, but it is a Shimano! :eyebrows: Recently purchased a 7' MH Daiwa Jupiter (rated 1/4-1 oz), but only got to use it one day before heading back home. This rod is made for Walmart...about $70. Can't give an honest opinion of it yet. Bought it rather than a Lightning or Lightning Shock mainly because of a review read here. Does launch a 1/2 oz. bait a fair distance. :D

Caught a few small bass with it. Have thrown a spinnerbait, toad, worm and crankbait with the rod so far.

I picked up a couple Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rods earlier this year, but haven't fished them yet. Amazon has the best prices as does buy.com (but way fewer models). Quite a few are giving them great reviews. $129 rods I got for about $82.from the previously mentioned sites.

I like the looks of the Premier over the Mojo and Triumph, but that is just personal preference. A friend was using a 7' MH Compre as his all around rod until upgrading to an Avid last year. He swears by the Compre.

Once you reach the $150 price range you have a whole slew of choices. If you are willing to buy used, you can find some very nice rods. Such as a Cumara or similar.

EDIT: There are plenty of threads about $100 or less reels. Try a search. You will find plenty of reading.

I have too many sellus's to count, they're great.

I cant help with the baitcasting setup, but for spinning, check out the Pflueger Supreme. It is one hell of a reel for 100 dollars. If you want to spend less, look at the Pflueger President. Even the Pflueger Templar (Made for walmart only) is a great value at 50 bucks. As for rods, I use and suggest St. Croix rods all the way.
