Revo Stx Users Question.

Featured Replies

Hi!

I'm new to baitcasters, recently bought 3 of them : Curado, Chronarch and Revo STX.

Love them all.

Shimanos have only centrifugal brake but Revo STX has centrifugal brake and magnetic brake.

Question is: when are you using that magbetic brake....is this useful?.....I've been fishing using the STX...and didnt find any need to use/adjust magnetic brake....so what are benefits of having that mag. brake?

I'm casting easy 35-40 m....with all 3 reels without problems....no birds nest ( if I dont make a mistake - like not thinking about what I'm doing ).

I turn my magnet brakes up if the wind kicks up and im casting into it.

You can cast 35-40m? That's almost all the line on each reel. If your getting that much line off without mag brakes now you should never need them. I can get maybe 75ft off my curados and about 65ft off my stx, both spooled with 12lb flouro.

Yes.. I can cast that far..but with heavy in - line spinner.....the guy that spooled my reel in store said that the tape is every 35 yards...recently I had to move it a few meters...because I was casting further.

the line is 50lb Power Pro, on Chronarch 15 lb mono.

with STX I think I have longer casts ( a little bit).

Thank you.

A centrifugal brake comes on as the spool starts to spin and eases as the spool slows helping to prevent the line from being fed faster than it's being pulled out (backlash). The Mag brake is linear as it puts consistent pressure on the spool. This is most evedent at the end of the cast as the bait loses momentum, the spool slows preventing over-run. The mag will be most helpful casting into the wind or throwing baits with non-aerodynamic profiles like a spinner-bait because they lose momentum quickly.

The premier holds 145 yards of 12# line. And since a meter is pretty close to a yard, those casts won't really come close to emptying it.

I use the mag and centrifugal brakes in concert on my Premiers, which have the same braking system as the STX. You might experiment with turning off one of the cents and dialing up the mags a little to see if you can get better performance. And like the others, I always dial it up a bit for into the wind use.

40x3 is 120... so casting 105-120 feet that's more than 2/3s of the spool. Honestly its really hard to judge linear feet with out having a measuring tape. Not trying to bust anyone's ball here
