Hey Guys Im New Sort Of What Kind Of Baits Can You Throw With Gloomis Mbr842 Glx

Featured Replies

i currently have a daiwa fuego and medium fast fenwick techna av as my current set up, but recently ordered a gloomis mbr 842glx to pair up with my daiwa px type r i just got i plan on mostly throwing soft plastics with it but was wondering if i could maybe throw crankbaits every once and a while. if i would have known that the daiwa px type r only could handle up to 8 pound test i would have purchased the steez instead but when i got the reel i loved the look and feel of it so much i decided not to send it back do you guys think this set up would be good for t-rigs, and maybe medium diving crankbaits. my next set up will defiently be a mbr843 and steez though thanks,

Daniel, look at the rod's and reel's specifications.

The rod's specs are on the blank and you may have to look up the reel at Tackle Express and read about its paramaters.

As long as you balance the rod, reel, line test and bait you can throw whatever you want.

Also, go to the G. Loomis web site and you can pull up the rod and read all about it and what technique it is designed best.

Just balance the rod, reel, line test and bait weight.

Now, what type of line to use for what techniques and baits???????

My favorite rig is the MBR842C/ Core 50MG. I throw soft swimbaits almost exclusively with this rod & reel.

I have both the Loomis MBR842C and the Daiwa PX Type R...but not as a combo. The Daiwa is on a Phenix light-power rod.

On the MBR842 - I use mine mostly as a worm rod but like most 7'mf rods, it is very versatile. Soft plastics, lipless cranks, lighter spinnerbaits, perhaps topwater, etc. Would work OK for shallow and medium cranks but at some point you might want to get a dedicated cranking rod for that kind of thing.

On the PX Type R - I've run 6 and 8lb YZ Ultrasoft on mine. The reel would have no problem "handling" a heavier line...but you will have VERY limited line capacity. 8lb YZ or 20lb braid (if you don't have the "dig-in" problem) would be a good balance between strength and line capacity.

You have some cool gear - have fun...
