Went fishing this morning, I tried a strike king buzzbait. Either a small or a pond sized. Problem was is that it wasn't staying on the top. It looked like it ran around a foot deep. I tried reeling it faster or slower but no luck. It was on 6# test. I normally don't use this reel/rod but my favorite rod/reel broke. So maybe the blade was bent somehow? Any suggestions?

6lb, probably on spinnig gear, you need a higher gear ratio of 7, i use 7:3.1, i know people that have to reel fast but use the all around 6:4 gear as well. thats the main reason i went from spincasting to baitcasting, i wanted to use a buzzbait so bad, but could never get it up with a zebco 33, which has like 3 gears, started getting into bassin and all my gear is mainly baticasting. if you arent using spinning gear, not sure, i do know people have trouble casting 6 lb out on BC.

Start reeling the instant it hits the water with your rod tip up high, I don't se why this wouldn't work unless you have a rod no longer than 4' long.

Cup the blades more so they catch more water and add more resistance- Im no expert but just give that a try ahhum!

It isn't the bait, it is your reel. Buzzbaits don't just come to the top by reeling them, you have to start reeling as soon as it hits the water and then maintain a speed that keeps it up on top. What it sounds like to me is that you make the cast and then begin your retrieve with the bait under the surface and you are expecting the blades to bring it to the top and you are wondering why. If that is the case it would explain a lot and the simple fix is to reel faster with the rod tip high and once you get it on the surface all you need to do is reel fast enough to keep it on top.

Alright, I tried reeling it in as soon as it hit the water. It works. I guess my timing was off this morning. I had my kid with me this morning so I was helping out. So maybe that is the reason. I never had any trouble with a buzzbait.

Your line should not touch the water when properly working the buzzbait.
