Smokin Rooster: Best color and what is it supposed to mimic?

Featured Replies

Im looking into picking up some of these. Which colors have been the most effective for everyone? The colors interested in are watermelon red flake, green pumpkin, and bama bug. Lastly what are these supposed to mimic? Thanks in advance for the help!

My two favorite colors are the watermelon and green pumpkin. This is a great pitching bait, or good on a Tx rig, or Carolina rig. Don't really know exactly what it's supposed to look like, but the bass don't seem to care! I got these closer to the end of this past summer, so this coming season I will be able to really use these more, along with my Eeliminators and Thumper worms! I do know that they are very durable, and have great action in the water, you won't be disappointed.

I don't think it really mimics anything.  But it works!  I've had luck weightless, t-rigged, burning, deadsticking, you name it, it catches fish.  Very versatile bait.

Flipped, pitched, punched, swam or simply cast in, around or through any heavy cover; my most productive colors have been Okeechobee Craw & Watermelon Neon.

What's is mimic? Something big bass can't resist  :)

I just picked up a pack of these as well... cant wait to try them out... they look good when swam or bounced on the bottom... video on youtube shows them in action if you havent seen it.....

I used to wonder why bass hit some of the lures that they do. A few years back I saw a bass go airborne as she ate a dragonfly, we also know that they will also eat mice, frogs etc these are critters that are not a normal part of their diet. Bass are opportunist and in the bodies of water they are found they are one of the top predators or in some cases the top predator. If something moves in the right way and if the bass thinks it can fit in it's mouth it's potential prey even if it's something she has not seen before or is a normal part of her diet. Also, in nature fish often have to make a quick decision as to whether to strike or not (Example think flipping with a heavy sinker which in my opinion is a reaction strike ), fortuneately for us fisherman they screw up enough so we can have some fun.

Regarding the the smokin' rooster I haven't tried it yet, but watchting the way it moves in the Strike King videos I've seen if I were a bass I would certainly try to kill it. Regarding colors, whatever colors of soft plastics that have worked for you in the past will likely work for this bait. I would probably get a bag of Green Pumpkin and something dark like a Junebug if I were trying the bait out.

Crab - Crustacean - Creature that can be morphed or changed by pinching wings or tail off for smaller prophile yet still have good action with minimal movement.

Versatile is the description I use very often regarding the Smokin Rooster. As some have previously mentioned, it is adaptable to just about every style of presentation and from super slow bottom bumping to spinner bait retrieves - if using a weighted hook.

I like Watermelon/red, Okeechobee, Green pumpkin and black/blue flake.....I also like tipping the single tail w/chartreuse JJ's.

Hope you enjoy'em

thanks for all the great answers! I will definately be picking up some of these. I have settled on the watermelon red flake for now.  I know this post is about the Smokin Rooster, but how does the eeliminator fare against the rooster?  I have some in blue glimmer black flake and have not gotten bit on it yet, not even a follow.  What colors do you all use for the eeliminators?

Colors:

Clear water go with Green Pumpkin or Watermelon.

Darker water go with Black/Blue or Junebug.

Whatever it is supposed to imitate, bass love it.

Swim it, jig it, crawl it, it's killer.
