Fishing Murky/muddy Water

Recommended Posts

This weekend i'm going to be fishing a murky lowland reservoir. The main bait i'm going to be using is the rage tail thumper worm. With that tail kicking it has a lot of vibration for the bass to find in the murky water. What retrieve should I use? a slow steady pull or hop it?

Both!

You will find that on any given outing, one retrieve will be preferred,

but you won't know until you give them both a try.

As far as the worm goes, try a variety of retrieves and let the fish tell you what they want. I also would strongly suggest trying some reaction type baits, i.e: spinner baits and rattling crank baits. My personal favorite for muddy water would be a SINGLE colorado bladed spinnerbait with a chatruese or chart./white skirt. Single colorado blade will give the best vibration and I feel that is what gives you the best chance at attracting strikes.

When fishing muddy waters you want to move as much water as possible to get their attention, top water baits would be my suggestion, dual bladded buzz baits, black in color, poppers work well also.
