A friend and I have been buying jig heads and painting them with powder paint. However, after getting them painted we are having trouble getting the weedguards to hold. We are using pins to keep the hole open, but superglue isn't doing the trick. Is there some other trick that you guys can offer? Thanks.

Use a waterproof 2 part epoxy.

The epoxy works well. With the super glue gel, try putting a small amount in first and making sure the base is coated. Let dry and fill in the rest with glue. That way the guard stays in place. Give it plenty of tine to dry.

I've not had any problems with superglue, but I use Loctite Gel superglue. The regular thin superglue doesn't work nearly as well. Devcon epoxy will work also, but the gel superglue is faster.

I usually give my jigs a coat of Devcon 2 Ton epoxy so I also use it to glue the weedguards in place. The 2 part epoxy is great because it is super strong and water proof, plus it dries clear and doesn't wick up fibers in the weedguard. There are some drawbacks like the 24 hour cure time and the mixing part but I don't mind those types of things for what it does for me. If I'm not using Devcon 2 ton epoxy to coat the jig then I use Loctite super glue gel, this is strong and more importantly, it won't wick up the fibers of the weedguard which is what happens if you use regular super glue.

ShadMaster you got excellent advice from everyone here. If you are going to use super glue, use super glue gel like backwater4 stated. Most important you must give it at least a day or more to flash off and dry. Otherwise it will not hold. If you use epoxy I wait at least 2-3 days before fishing the jig. JMO

Flash off or Flash point is the time it takes the vapors or solvents to evaporate. So like loc-tite super glue gel has a chemical called cyanoacrylates, some other glues have acetone or other chemicals. When you put the loc-tite on, it does have a smell, and what I noticed is that smell evaporates when you finally see the white powder arond the weedguard hole. What is happening is the chemical is evaporating (flashing off) and as it flashes off it is drying leaving the residue. So once this happens I strongly recommend to wait another day so everytrhing fully dries. You can speed up the process and limit the white powder residue, by putting a small fan on low, blowing on the jigs. What this will do is blow away the vapors that are flashing off and keeping the vapors from leaving the white residue.
