When Using Fluorocarbon Do You Use It As A Leader Or Not?

I have been reading alot on fluorocarbon lines and want to give it a shot. What seems to be the best or most common way to use this. Bite the bullet and spool an entire reel or use it as a leader or go half and half with mono?

Sorry for the newbie question but never strayed away from Berkley Trilene XL or Armor Coated mono.

I seldom use a leader, but when I do it isn't half/half, it is 1-1/2 feet to 5-6 feet max. I'm cheap. I spool inexpensive mono on first, then finish off with fluorocarbon. Make sure to leave enough room for the fluro. I hate getting into a knot. Most reels hold more line than you will ever use bass fishing.

EDIT: Oops. Missed the OR first time thru My mind saw AND.. Sorry about that.

I kinda figured that. I have been spooling with no leader for years. I have always been scared to tie two lines together until this year. I had a break in my line due to a snafu with a pocket knife beer and a backlash. I tied my remaining line on the spool like a leader. I landed two wiper appox 12-13 pounds a piece the entire time the knot was exposed with no issues.

Ive tried the braid/leader and just didnt like it on casting set ups. I use straight fluoro for most things and braid for the rest. I do use a fluoro leader drop shotting and shakey head fishing though.

I also use braid with a flouro. leader for dropshot and shakey head. The braid eliminates all the line twist and coiling with a spinning reel. I never spool a baitcaster completely full of new line, you're just wasting it, because you'll never use it all the way down to the spool. I leave old line on as a backing and tie the new to the old. That can save you a lot of money when using flouro. As has already been said, try to spool enough flouro. on so you don't get into the knot.
