I had one of my treble hooks break after catching a fish this weekend. I am looking to purchase some quality hooks to replace for this lure and some of my other lures with lowquality hooks on them.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Something with good price to performance would be nice.

I use the #4 Mustad KVD Elite 1x strong, 2x short, triple grips on 1.5's and #2's on 2.5's. Those are the hooks KVD uses on those baits, good enough for him.....good enough for me. He states he upsizesthe hooks on those baits one size and it dosen't change the way the bait runs, I don't, I just stay with the stock sizes....which is a #4 or #2

x 1000 on the Mustad hooks. I upsize like he said, and dont hang up any more often than I did with standard hooks.

Sweet sounds like mustad is the way to go. Is it good practice to change most hooks out on lures? I usually buy strike king stuff or other mid priced lures.

Also, is there any tips for getting the hooks off. I'm having a really tough time getting the hook off. It is like a super miniature key chain ring.

KVD will tell you to upsize to the largest size hook you can go with that will not tangle on itself. I put #1 KVD Elite Mustad's on with no ill side effects.

Another vote for the Mustads. I put them on ALL my cranks now and go a size up on nearly all of them as well. They don't seem to hang up anymore and I've never had the hooks catch on each other. I'd like to find some #1 or 1/0 to replace the #2s on my 6xd's and 2.5's.

They are a pain to get off. Some of the split rings are easy to work with and some aren't. I'll have to watch that video to see what special tip I'm missing. Either way BE CAREFUL. I slipped the other day and put a hook through the side of my pointer finger. Fortunately it rode just under the top layer of skin before it came back out. I had to cut the tip off to get the hook out. I was very fortunate it went in the angle that it did. I'm also glad it was the original hook and not the Mustad. That thing was very hard to cut.

EDIT - I guess I was missing the step with the pliers. I'll have to give that a try. Maybe it'll save me any future trauma on my fingers.

Would I be fine getting the #1 KVD elite mustads for the KVD 1.5 square bill?

Never mind I'm putting the #2 mustad elite on the KVD squarebill 1.5's.

Now I have some red eye shads in various colors. What size hooks come on these? Would it be okay to change in #4 mustad elites on the red eye shad? Or should I upsize?
