Can anyone identify this old hard bait?

Featured Replies

Anybody know what this is?

I inherited a lot of old 70s and 80s tackle 3 years ago when my Dad's cousin passed away. I've never been able to figure out what this old crankbait is. As a follow-up question, does anybody know of a resource online that can help identify old 70s and 80s lures. I've found plenty of collecting sites for really really old baits, but not much for 60s / 70s stuff.

Thanks in advance

I don't know what it is, but I like the pattern and I would be cranking it this spring though. ;D

Huh. Well no kidding. I've even been to Bagley's site and didn't notice. They do indeed make a modern version. And I just checked and Cabela's sells 'em.

Thanks so much

If its plastic I think its a Rebel. If its wood I think its a Bagley. I have that bait up at the lake & when I go there this week I'll check it out.

Man, you 're good.

Yup, Bagley 's still used to make them a few years ago, but they are far from being like the one in the pic.

No doubt about it! I have a few of these baits in my old tackle box in the attic. Simply the most beautiful finishes I've ever seen on any crank. Don't think they're worth very much - yet. They haven't been around that long. Maybe early to mid 80's. But give 'em another 20 years. :(

I have the Crappie, Shad, and Blue Gill in the orignal Small Fry series.

It easy to determine if it's wood or plastic by looking at the bill. The wooden lures have glued-in bills, plastic lures usually have molded-on bills. The pictured lure has a glued-in bill.

I have the shad, bluegill and baby bass, man the baby bass is a true work of art. The Photofinish era taken to the extreme by Bagley 's, super realistic.
