Hot Hot Heat!

Featured Replies

Anybody going fishing this weekend in the southeast despite the blistering temperatures? I'm thinking about hitting the water tonight and early saturday morning here in Greensboro, NC. Do you have any specific ways that you beat the heat and land fish?

I live in Jacksonville and I was out this morning from 9 to 11 and I noticed a bunch of bass chilling by the shore line it was weird. They weren't biting though. I only caught one 3lb but saw a least 6 or so close to shore

Big ice chest full of ice and water. Dip a big white towel in the water and rap it around your neck. Repeat as needed!!

Big fishing hat, long sleeves, face buff that you can soak in cold water, lot's of water and ice. I'm fishing both days this weekend. Couples tourney on Sunday, pre-fish Sat.

Older anglers be careful out there, the heat can sneak up on you quickly; don't be afraid of jumping in the water to cool off if things get bad, you need to drop your body temp.

I'm 65 and in average shape,, which means I'm a physical wreck ;) I was out one day last week, it was very hot - in the upper 90's, I drank two bottles of water and two bottles of gator-aide during the day and it wasn't enough. When I realized the heat was getting to me I wet down my buff and shirt, and headed in to the ramp about 45 min away. By the time I reached the ramp I was feeling bad and unsteady on my feet; when I got to my truck I ran the A/C on max and just sat there until I recovered enough to get the boat and head home. I actually considered going to the ER, but I know the routine and did it at home but it still took a day or so before I felt better,

Be extra careful in the high temp and the sun while your on the water.

Also, if your on medications make yourself aware of how they respond to sun and heat, some med's can make you sensitive to the sun; talk to your doctor about being out on the water in these conditions, and review your meds with them.

I seldom go bass fishing in the summer only because the quality of fish isn't the same as winter. The action gets a bit slow this time of year in my area, I don't mind the heat but I don't like be bored catching small fish. I am at the ocean every day, I only cover up if the no seeums are out, otherwise it's shorts and a t-shirt.

I used to walk and carry my clubs a few times a week, much preferred it to a golf cart, that kept me in real decent shape, I do notice the difference as I don't do that anymore.

I fished Friday for snakeheads, finished at 5...passed out at my gfs house from the heat after dinner and drove home after midnight. Im 4 shades darker. I cant imagine what tomorrow will feel like

My friend who is a novice hooked a bass that looked like it was about 8lbs. It came off the line, it pulled so much drag, it was locked down and the hook wasnt even exposed from the frog. My biggest bass was 6lbs and it looked much bigger at the surface.

107 today and 107 yesterday. Think I will wait until it "cools" off a bit before I go back.

You ain't gonna see this old man on the water this time of year in my part of the world, unless I'm trout fishing below the dams on the White river.

Almost melted yesterday. 14 shades darker and the bugs were biting

so the heat wave is going to let up soon, anyone doing any good during this heat?

yep have beat my personal best not once but twice this week. weed beds have been the most giving during this crazy heat going through right now

I try to stick to shade or go fishing where there is usually a lot of trees to sit under. I also always have ice cold water on me. Slow moving soft plastics usually work for me on really hot days.

Forecast here in Tenn is showing 100+ continuing all week through next Sun at least. If we don't get some rain here soon fishing want matter unless fish can survive living in dust :sad10: :sad10:

Haven't had much luck here in NC. The weather has cooled off to a measly 95 degrees here today. I'm gonna take the boat out tonight after work and throw some soft plastics around some brush piles.

Finished 4th in the couples tournament. We fish till noon, then we all go to lunch. Hubby and I got home, passed out with a nap until 5:30.

I just leave the house at 3:30 am, on the water at 5 and off by 10:30-11. Fishing the ledges at Pickwick like it's winter,i.e. slow, slow, slow! Also trying out some fluttering spoons as well. Be careful out there!

The heat has been brutal. I fished in the everglades on Saturday left the house at 7:30am my weight was 192, came back at home at 8pm weight 187. I took cooler with 20lbs of ice on the trip, I personally drank 6 - 20oz gatorade's 2- softdrinks, 1 liter of water, and still when I got home I had to put down at least another 20oz of water and was wiped out all of Sunday. Was it worth it.... Heck Yeah! the fishing was awesome. All kidding aside, proper clothing and hydration is critical this time of year.

Has anyone tried freezing bottles of water and Gatorade in stead of using ice? I take 3 unfrozen of each and 3 frozen of each in a soft cooler.

We do, plus we freeze some bottles to put in the live well just to keep the fish comfortable. (no, we don't drink from those lol)

Justin, go at night. It's the only way to fish this time of year.
