Fishing Pickwick Late June
It's been so windy the past couple days that it had been hard to stay on any structure out in the Lake. We had a cold front pass through too that dropped temps into the 40s both Thursday and Friday morning. The FLW Tour has been here this week. Big bag today was 22 pounds 12 ounces.

Conceal carry permit holders no longer need background check
I think its a good idea. If I can be issued a CCW then there should be no reason that a background check be run.

Conceal carry permit holders no longer need background check
A new law passed in the state of Alabama will allow those who have a conceal carry permit to no longer have to undergo a background check when purchasing a firearm. I guess this will help cut down some of the paper work gun shops have to do. Thoughts? http://whnt.com/2016/02/26/alabama-conceal-carry-permit-holders-now-exempt-from-background-checks-when-purchasing-firearms/

Colbert Ferry Park Boat Ramp (Pickwick Lake)
Just a heads up. Anyone coming to Pickwick and launching from the ramp at Colbert Ferry there has been several trucks broken in to over the Spring and into the Summer. Colbert Ferry is on the Natchez Trace in Colbert County just before you cross the river. Seems like toolboxes are a popular target.

More Expensive Habit Than Fishing
I usually try to pick up a box of ammo once or twice a month just to keep my supply up. I don't shoot much, but I love my AR and fishing to. A delicate balance it is. I bought a complete upper and complete lower separately then snapped them together and it was ready to go. Keep a check on the Palmetto State Armory site, they've usually got some deals going on both gun parts and bulk ammo.

Structure Buggin'
I'm not sure. Its been over a month since I have had the boat in the water. I would guess its in the 70s now on the main lake.

Structure Buggin'
I bought some of these last night. It was the last pack they had. I can't remember the color but I also picked a structure jig head to put them on. Hopefully will get to try them out before to long. Its supposed to be up near 100 degrees next week so it maybe be the week after before I go.

Glock19 Or M&p
I finally got a Shield 9 mm. I have not had a chance to put any rounds through it but it was a pretty good deal and to good to pass up. I'm waiting on my Kydex holster. The guy that makes them is out of town and it will probably be the end of next week before its ready.

I was at our local Dick's today and they were fully stocked with ammo. I haven't seen the shelves that full in a long time. Plenty of 22 lr available, American Federal Eagle. I think they were probably the 50 round boxes. Also, at another local gun store they had a table of full of CCI Mini mags, pack of 100, for $8.95. This was posted Thursday and I didn't see any today but they did have other 22 in stock.

Pickwick Report
We had better luck today getting out of the wind. Caught a few up in a little slough about 8-10 ft of water. We caught a couple catfish on crappie baits. I was surprised when the rod went straight down. I figured it was a stripe (white bass) the way it was pulling. Much better today getting out of the current and away from the wind.

I got to use it a lot more today and I was really impressed. It's amazing what you can see with the down imaging.

Pickwick Report
First, I was surprised at how high the water had came up. Both Cypress Creek and Spring Creek were really muddy. The current today combined with the wind made for a less than optimal fishing conditions. Gonna launch from the Natchez Trace ramp tomorrow and try to find some places to get out of the wind/current.

Advice On Looking At A Boat
I have a Lowe 17 ft Stryker and really like it. Its perfect for the weekend warrior and good on gas. My only complaint is there is no rod box, but it wasn't a deal breaker.

Boat Motor Issue (Mercury 60Hp)
I dug out my warranty papers and I do have the Platinum Plan through 2019 but it doesn't cover the primer bulb or gas line. At least I got my boat back in time for vacation.

Pickwick Report
Ended up getting my boat back today, so hopefully should be good to go Monday. Will report back. People are catching a lot of crappie right now. Maybe I should go crappie fishing instead..lol.

Boat Motor Issue (Mercury 60Hp)
They said it was a collapsed fuel line. Replaced the line and the primer ball. Apparently was not covered by warranty, but they worked it in today when originally they said it would be next week before they could even look at it. $85 for labor and $51 for the parts. He said they would check with Mercury about the warranty and get back in touch with me. I bought what I thought was the highest warranty mercury offered and hoped that would cover any issue that came up.

Boat Motor Issue (Mercury 60Hp)
Backed the boat into the water and it started up fine. Idled over to the dock to pick my dad up and everything seemed like it always does. Started out slow while we got things adjusted, was going around 10 mph hour or so. Once we were ready to go, I pushed it up to about 4500 rpm and it ran for a minute sputtered then the motor shut off. Set there a second, refired and slowly pushed it back up to around 4500-5000 rpm and it shut off again. Dad crawled back to the motor and pumped the primer ball a couple times and it would run then shut off again. He stayed back there and pumped it a few times and it would run so I slowed down and he got back into his seat. We got back up to around 4000 or so and it shut off. It would run at a slower rpm but it eventually got to the point it was shutting off then as well. I've taken it to the dealership and have warranty so whatever is hopefully will be covered by the Mercury Warranty but just curious any ideas what it might be? Its a 2011 60 hp 4 Stroke Mercury. The tech said could be a gas line collapsing in on itself or a number of things but wouldn't know for sure until they looked at it. Just stinks to be without my boat for a week while being on vacation but those things happen and it is what it is.

I have the same unit, with the GPS, mounted beside the steering wheel. Used it for the first time today and was very pleased with it. Screen size was not that big of an issue. It was cloudy so there was no glare to see how that would affect. The down imaging looked really good and the GPS seemed to be spot on. For the money, I think it is a good purchase. Mine also came with the cover and the Lake Insight card. I purchased it from Gander Mountain.

Pickwick Report
The water looked good today but motor issues forced us back to the ramp not long after launch. The only report I have is it will probably be the end of next week before the dealership can get to my boat. To top it off, next week is my vacation. So, those things happen. The tech said he'd try to work it in a little early if he could but they were backed up and being closed on Mondays doesn't play into my favor.

Pickwick Report
Just eyeballing it, looks like the river is finally up. I'm off next week, weather is supposed to break this weekend. Giddy Up!

Pickwick Report
Water is supposed to be up to or near summer pool by midweek. Of course we're also supposed to get several inches of rain this week as well.

Show your ride...
I have a Lowe Stryker 17 and love it. Does everything i need it to do. I think Lowe makes pretty good boats.

Rain Gear
I have a Columbia rain suit. It keeps me dry but its not for cold weather applications. They do make one's for colder weather though. I'm looking at this though:

Trailer Guide Post
My problem at the ramp I use is the current. You are constantly trying to fight the current to keep keep the boat straight when loading. If they aren't running much current its usually not that big of a deal but some days its really a pain.
