  1. You know what they say BOAT stands for: Bust Out Another Thousand Good luck with your purchase.
  2. I agree. It has taken us a couple years to find "spots" but we finally have a few. Plus experimenting with baits and researching online has really payed off. Learning is part of the fun and the frustration.
  3. Been having a lot of luck on Storm Wild Eye Swim Shad around here lately. 2 or 3 inch. LM and SM like em pretty well. My only complaint is they don't hold up to well. The eyes commonly come off and today even part of the head was was torn off in a battle with a LM.
  4. You look a little like the dude from Pawn Stars. I was thinking the exact same thing.
  5. I did it for a while, but the girl i was trying to date stopped and so did I.
  6. The Flip doesn't have an image stabilizer so i sprung for a Kodak HD Zi8. Takes video in 1080 and 720. The quality is pretty good too. Probably comparable to the Flip, but with less camera shake.
  7. We have never caught smallmouth until this year. We started using a storm wildeye swim shad. In a 4" 7/16 oz and a 3" 1/4 oz size. Probably just dumb look for us, but i guess they like em a little bit.
  8. We have a 40 hp on our 16 ft monarch bass boat which is similar to the g3 and basstracker boats and with 2 of us running almost wide open i clocked us at about 25 mph with my gps. I think the boat is rated for a 50 or 60. With it being our first boat and being in our price range we could not turn it down. Now that we feel comfortable with boating, the next boat we will buy will have a bigger motor with a few more bells and whistles. Its also easier on the pocketbook when we go to the pumps. We can get several trips out of one tank.
  9. Thanks guys.
  10. I'm am looking for some good trailers for my strike king swim jig. Does anyone have any recommendations?
  11. One of the local creeks here that feed into the Tennessee River get alive with striper action in August. They are literally chasing schools of baitfish in the creeks. They explode on the water when they go after the fish. We usually try to catch some baitfish and then then use them to catch the striper. They don't really hit any artificial baits but every now and then you can catch one. My brother and friend caught a pair of 10 pounders one night. A guy that we use to see catching them said the biggest one he ever caught was around 20 pounds. Quick question, how can you tell some of the smaller hybrids from the bigger white bass?
  12. I just like to catch fish. We can usually find crappie easier than bass and if you find them you can usually catch a lot. On a slow day, its just fun to be catching anything.
  13. We were using a Storm Swim Shad today and caught a couple largemouths and 2 smallmouths around rocky areas. We also caught several white bass. We were using a medium to slow retrieve. Occasionally I would twitch the rod too.
  14. See them all the time in the creeks around here. They don't ever bother our baits though. Most of the bigger ones are 3-4 foot long.
  15. 1994 16 1/2 foot MonArk Bassboat 160 with a 40 HP Force Motor. Not a speed demon but it gets me to where I want and need to go.
  16. I like to use Bass Assassin 1.5 inch Shads. They come in a variety colors, but the Black Shad color seems to be my favorite. We use a 1/16 or 1/32 size jig head.
  17. I recently purchased some Zoom Salty Super Fluke in a Smokin Shad color. I had never used them before so I googled them on the internet and read how to to rig them up. I finally got to use them this afternoon. The first fish to strike at it looked like a white bass (called a stripe around here). I missed it, didn't get the hook set. We drifted on down a bit around some submerged rocks and threw over them. When the bait came over the last rock 3 bass came out after it. The middle one took it and i set the hook and landed it. The next 2 were caught in and around the rocks the same way. It felt good to catch fish this way. I look forward to using them more this spring and this summer.
  18. My grandfather caught a rock last week. The next fish he hooked he said "well, at least this one if fighting back".
  19. Google search yellow bass. It won't allow me to post a pic or a link yet. We were catching every other cast for about 5 hours. With three people in the boat the numbers really add up. I didn't realize stripe was a regional term...lol.
  20. We managed to probably catch an estimated 200 stripe today. We just floated the bank for probably a half mile or longer 2 different times and at times we were catching them every cast. It was a gorgeous day and getting to spend quality time with my 86 year old grandfather plus the numbers we caught today will be something i never forget. I even managed to grab a largemouth hanging out in about 3 foot of water near a fallen tree that was submerged in the water. I thought for sure when it hit that it would have been a crappie. I was surprised when he jumped!
  21. Thanks for the warm welcome. I apologize for putting the thread in the wrong forum. I had completely overlooked there being an introduction forum.
  22. I have been lurking for some time now and decided to join the other night. I live Northwest Alabama minutes away from Pickwick, so that is the area I fish the most. We usually fish between Colbert Steam Plant and Cypress Creek at Florence. This time of year we are mostly catching stripe and crappie but I love to catch bass. It was a bit windy this afternoon but did manage a couple smaller largemouth and several nice stripe. We are always learning and seems like every time we go out we find out something new. For instance today we were trying to get out of the wind so we went up next to the big Limestone bluffs just above Sheffield and picked up one of the largemouth. The best I can remember that was the first time i have caught anything off the bluff. Anyway, yall do an excellent job on here with the tips and pointers and I always find myself taking notes.
