Jigs With Trailers

Featured Replies

Any helpful material on how to make jigs. I hear of people using them with trailers. I have NO idea what they are talking about or what I need to get to make these. I've been fishing mostly plastics so I'm looking to expand my knowledge on this stuff. Thanks

If you have never fished them before and are just starting to experiment with them, I wouldn't recommend buying everything needed to build em from scratch. I would buy a few different style heads, and different color skirt and put those together. This will save you a ton in startup cost to get everything needed to start from scratch. After you get the feel for them and decide you like them, then pursue the leadpot, molds, and other supplies needed.

As for the trailers, it's anything you want to put on the back of the jig to finish it off. Most use craws or chunks, but can be anything from a worm to a swimbait. Use your imagination. You never know what those crazy fish like.

X2 on what Skeeterman said. Start out simple and ask a lot of questions. Then go and try it out to see what works for your type of presentation.

Your startup could be several hundred dollars so like suggested I recommend that you buy some jigs and what ever trailer you choose and see it you like fishing them before you take a plunge to make them.

Cadman and Gman on this site make and sell jigs.
