New Line For Fishing Criks

Featured Replies

im on the hunt for a new line that has really good abrasion resistance since mainly where i fish is a shallow crik with a lot of chunk rock and limestone ive been using berkley xt but the line is so thick its tough to get good cast and p-line cxx strong has way to much memory and just flies off the spool and p line fluroclear is alright so if anyone has any lines they've used that has really good abrasion resistance please let me know doesnt matter if its fluro or mono but no braid for me

Are you using a line conditioner? It helps a lot. What pound line are you using? Try Yo-Zuri 6 or 8 lb. Braid is not abrasive resistant. I haven't used the Yo-Zuri line, but lots on here swear by it.

YoZuri. Stong as he!!, holds up to these Snakeheads.

X 3 for Yo Zuri Hybrid. The stuff is just plain TOUGH. I fish it in chunk rock and jagged ledges daily, it gets torn up, but has always held strong...just inspect your line occasionally and retie when needed.

The fact that it is also very controllable on spinning gear is just a bonus. I haven't even tried the ultra soft...but only because the original stuff works so well.

Spinning gear: Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 (11.9 lb breaking strength)

Baitcasting: Hybrid #12 (19.5 lb breaking strength)

I told you that not only do I fish the river but during high water I oftem go back into the CREEK that you talk about. The 2 lines I use on my spinning outfits for those areas are Berkley XT in 8lb test and I use the KVD line conditioner as it really helps with the memory. The other line is the Cajun Clear Cast, not the red but clear and not the lightning but the cast, the reason I say that is it got a bad rap for being like wire and what was wrong is the lightning is made for casting reels not spinning. Anyway, the clear cast is a good copolyomer line with excellent abrasion resistance and about the same amount of stretch if not less than the Berkley XT and it handles better. The reason I use both line is the clear cast is hard to find in store so I have to get it online while the berkley is always on hand at Cabela's.

so is it like a braid or is it like a copolymer line?

Yo Zuri hybrid is a bonded copolymer line, you could probably get away with using 4# test in the crik. Maybe you could give the ultrasoft a try, although I dont think you will have an issue with the original, especially with KVD L&L.

I use P-Line CX moss green 6 lb. It don't have memory like CXX does.

Never had any problems with it.

U never mentioned what lb test ur using. Theres lots of good lines to choose frim in that situation. Hybrid in 6lb. Cxx in 6lb actually handles pretty dang good and is strong as a logging chain. If u can find it, the gamma copolymer in 6 is a joy to fish as well.

i use 10# because i transition from crik to lake or ponds also but not to much anymore i use the xt a lot its good but i just want something a little thinner and i use reel magic conditioner im thinking about going back to the kvd one but if the yo zuri 6# breaks at 11# ill probably go with a 8# spool

10lb of any mono is a bit much on a bass sized spinning reel. In fact 8lb hybrid gave me a few issues.
