Goin On The River Saturday Morning, Should I Go For Bass Or Just Settle For Crappie?

Featured Replies

How do you guys fish for crappie? What lures?

Many years ago I used Beetle Spins with Mr. Twister grubs and small Roostertails for crappies. Don't know what the latest fad is.

Good luck.

2 inch curlytail grubs on a 1/8 oz jighead. 1/4 oz if they are really deep. I always carry several colors, sometimes the hot color switches every hour or so. I always have black, white, and chartreuse, and usually either pink, red, or purple as well.

Crappie love shiners and so do bass so you can kill 2 fish with one fish

Same as above. Beetle spins and small grubs on a 1/8oz. jig head. Split shot rig with small hair jigs. Minnows for live bait. Bright colors. Orange, white, pink, chartreuse, lime green. Crappie feed vertically, you want to fish over them with a vertical presentation.

I would go for bass.

When I first started fishing with my father we never targeted the smaller fish right off the bat. Most of the time we worked our way down the size chain, starting with pike, walleye, bass, if the bite was weak we fished perch, crappies and bluegills. The procedure varied between inland lakes and Lake St Clair and the Great Lakes, we had salmon and sturgeon and muskie to target first.

1/16 oz. maribou jigs, white, chartreuse, black all will work at times. Crappie seem to me to be more picky about color than other fish.

Definitely go for bass but take a couple crappie for dinner !

ive always used shinners and jig with them. nothing better than the real thing imo.
