Fredericksburg, Va Question

Featured Replies

Folks, I would love to get your general thoughts on the Fredericksburg area. I have fished all of the public reservoirs in/around Fredericksburg (Hunting Run, Ni River, Motts, Lake Orange + Rappahannock) since moving there 2+ years ago. What are your favorites and why?

Have to say I have only fished hunting run but that place is amazing! It has been a couple of years since I fished it last and I wish they would bring the water level back down a little. Soooo many places for fish to hide but it was a blast the first year it was open. Water was very clear, you would have a 4lb fish on the line and look down and see 4-5 bigger fish swimming with it trying to get the bait!

Hunting Run is the best lake around there, easily. When I was in college (at Mary Washington) I waded the upper Rapp alot. Good times. I caught my first smallie there, and my first striper right below the fall line. If you know how to fish small water for smallies, and don't mind alot of break-offs in the rocks, the upper Rapp is very fun.
