Mystic River

Featured Replies

I asked this question last year without much reply.. to those who did thx and here's hoping a few others see it this time around.... I am fishing the

B.A.S.S divisional on the 12th 13th and 14th of september and have never fished here or anywhere in the state... Looking for info on types of cover/structure I will encounter or should concentrate on and also what kind of forage and baits to concentrate on... if someone is willing to share spots that is appreciated but not expected we are launching out of Medford somewhere near the locks.

Are you also allowed fishing the Charles? The charles is a better bet for bigger fish but a good bag can come from either. in the mystic wood cover is far more common than grass. there are also some more "unnatural" cover that can hold bass... shopping carts, 55gallon drums, etc... water is usually fairly murky. the mystic has lots of herring.. alewives and bluebacks so immatating those would be a good idea. also dark colored jigs should produce as well. thats about all i got for you i haven't fished there many times

First things first and correct me if I'm wrong but the tourney is on upper mystic lake corrext? There's an upper and lower separated by the Dam and boat club house. They fish very different I have in depth experience on both and happy to share but like I said which are you on

I am pretty sure it is the lower... we are launching near the harbour and can lock through to the charles.. I know we are allowed into the mystic lake as well...As for the lead ban will I have to remove all lead from my box or can I have it with as long as I am not using it?

The lead I am not sure of I don't know how they enforce that for tournaments. Yes if you're worki he river and can cut to the Charles it's the lower however the river is quite low right now and the mystic river is not very deep at normal levels anyways it's very urban running through thick city areas. However the lower mystic itself is a great lake with lots of bass main forage being shad alewives blue back herring. This time of year anything from 3-6 inches would be typical.the lower mystic lake is fairly deep although not as deep as the upper mystic lake. 60-70 feet is probably max depth Obviously in front of the Dam is productive especially as the wind tends to blow towards the spillway and that northeast bank. They're is also a few docks looking at the dam to the left as well as a nice pocket to the right with good vegetation. As you work your way from that bay along the shoreline closest to mystic parkway back towards the river they're are many laydowns and overhanging trees. I've had good luck throwing jigs to them black and blue with black and blue chunks or other craw type trailers as well as square bille cranks into them. As you get closer to the river they're is a point that continues underwater that is always productive swimming baitfish imitations over and bumping bottom now as you head in the channel facing the river entrance the creek channel runs along you're right hand bank Again plenty of laydowns and underwater structure. If you headed along that same bank in the opposite direction there is a real steel drop back in he main lake to the far northeast corner of the lake exact distance you will use your electronics. There is a pretty well defined creek channel that runs the distance of the lake from spillway to bridge by river at his time of year if you can locate that creek channel you will have your limit and start culling early. Hope this has helped
