Knife Comes In Handy

Featured Replies

I wear a survival knife on my PFD, not for protection, but rather for cutting myself free from lines and cords should my kayak ever overturn. I found out yesterday they have other uses when a beaver ran into my crank and became hooked. These creatures are strong swimmers! He took me, the yak, and half the line on my reel for a short ride across the lake until I was able to pull the knife from it's sheath and cut the line. I felt bad for the beaver and I hope he eventually gets the hook out, but he did get a nice LC crank in trade.

definitly a good thing you had the knife. i was fishing a frog from the shore the other day and had a beaver run into my line. he pulled the frog to him and it hooked his neck but it must not have been in deep cuz he struggled a bit, went under and the frog popped up.

Always have a knife in the tackle bag or in my pocket. Never know when you'll need one.

i bought an AK 47 last year and it came with a buayonet. I had no idea what to do with the knife, so now i put it in my boat when im on it or in my pocket when im shore fishing. I have yet to use it, but id rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Nothing is quite as fun as catching beaver on your crank.
