Just to clarify...what I am asking about is use of the snail knot on worm hooks. Anyone?

Do you mean the snell knot? If so, I snell all my worm hooks except weed-guarded hooks which use the shank for wire wrapping....

Use with fluoro, braid, mono, copoly, doesn't matter. Phenomenal for worm hooks.

Oh, you are right. Not "snail" but "snell". Thanks, Darren. :)

Here's a post I made a while back on the snell:

I started using the snell knot on all my plastics, have had no issues. You do have to be a little careful when tying it on a hook with a bait keeper on it.

I do snell on punching set up, but for some reason, I've never thought about doing the same on other worm applications. And what happened the last weekend was I went to this new body of water and I had many nibble on the lure, but no fish situation. It was probably because of too many dinks. Then I though why not go with snell so that when I set the hook, hook kicks to the side of the mouth.

Why would having a snelled hook make it turn to the side of the mouth??

I watched that video in the other thread and it looks good. Trouble is that I use offset EWG hooks shaped like a G. Is this even necessary for a hook like that, or even possible??

Rooster, "necessary" is debatable on anything fishing. But yes it is possible, I have been doing it since someone showed me an easy snell knot. Not the best test in the world but it does seem like my hookup percentage is better, it certainly has not hurt it.

Maybe I shouldn't have said the side, it could be the top of the mouth.

If you bring the line through the eye of the hook from front side (side with the hook point) first, then when you pull the line on hook set you get this lever action going on and the hook kicks. You can see this guy demonstrates on the first part of the video.

The snell has definately improved my hook up percentage, my only complaint is my worm always slides up the line upon hook set. I use straight shank hooks and whe rigging the worm, I pull the eye all the way through the worm and rest it on the body of the worm to prevent it from sliding down. In other words, I use the eye of the hook for the keeper
