I'm currently unloading a few LTB and Extremes and purchasing a couple new jig and trig rods. I am going to buy this rod via TW black Friday sale or earlier if I just can't wait. Can't touch the rod prior to buying so for those that have the split grip 744c how well does this balance a curado 201E7? I've been told the extreme tapper is comparable to croixs fast in their legend blanks? Primary use will be light to mod cover 5/16-3/8 jigs or trugs which should hit this rods sweet spot?

thats a perfect weight range IMO........today I pitched a 1/4 ounce weight with a rage craw. I LOVE my dx744.

I cant help on grip cause I have full cork and a lewsTP on mine.

The 744 would be perfect with the 200 sized e reels. You can probably get away with the 743 and use it to pull double duty with weightless senkos and flukes as well.

If you are regularly throwing jigs and t-rigs between 3/8 and 1/2 ounce the 744 is the rod of choice.

I prefer split grips for bottom contact and full for moving baits. This is just a personal preference though!

I have the full grip myself, with a 200e on it. This is definitely one of my favorite all around rods. It is my choice for 3/8-3/4 oz jigs in our rocky reservoirs. I also pitch and flip senkos on the rod, throw spinnerbaits on our reservoirs, and throw a heavy dropshot on the rod. In my opinion it is one of the best rods on the market, and the best for what you're looking into. Hope you love it half as much as I do.

please DO NOT get the split grip version. Somehow with these longer rods, that split grip causes the rod to be a little tip heavy. It's noticeable especially for guys like myself who love fishing the lightest combo you can get away with. I have the 744dx full grip, 743dx and 742 split grip models. You can definitely feel the tip heaviness with a reel mounted on it.

I've got a SG 744DX, I don't notice any tip heaviness with it, but I haven't compared it to a 744 full cork. I'd get whatever grip you're more comfortable using.

I also have a SG 743DX, and that's what I use for lighter jigs/t-rigs in the ranges you mention, but I tend to prefer a bit lighter rod than most.

Do you know off hand, anybody, the weight of the SG DX744?

I found the weight. The rod really weights 5.2/5.4 oz? Seems heavy.

Don't know the weight. You could do a search on Dobyns, get their email and shoot them your questions. I've found them to be pretty responsive.

Give the good folks at dobyns rods a call. You will likely get Gary or his son both are very good people and very helpful.

You can ask him specifically about the weight of the rod and the full vs split grip handles. He will probably tell ya he prefers full but more and more anglers are wanting split hence the reason they offer the same exact rod in both.

I have and fish both and prefer split for bottom contact baits but full for swimbaits, spinnerbaits, and cranking.
