Old Tackle..

Featured Replies

So I recently ran into a bunch of old plastic worms and lizards at a yard sale..I got a huge box of probably 1970's plastics still in the plastic wrappers all greasy and wet..I got them so cheap I thought I would just get them to mess around with..I wouldn't put them in my tackle bag cause they were so greasy lol.I put them in some old Plano boxes. I am a firm believer in technology and the science that goes into today's lures.. But every time I use these old paddle tales I actually do better I don't know what it is.. It's like my catch ratio goes up every time I use them.. I still haven't used them a lot but its crazy how I do so well with these old lures.. The worms are just simple paddle tails and the lizards actually look like little people with a tail lol..I'm curious if the greasy substance is actually an attractant or what? The guy I bought them from said they had been in his storage building for years and years.

What is the brand name on the packages? I've never had the pleasure but of heard stories of some good finds at local yard sales. Mostly ancient lures in good condition selling for nickels .

The greasy stuff is probably something like anise oil, which is supposed to be a fish attractant. Those old paddle tails caught fish then and they'll catch fish now. A 8" Mann's jellyworm is one of my favorite worms and they've been around a long time but most people don't fish them it doesn't seem.

This may not be the case here, but I have seen where lakes and ponds that are fished hard by several people, the fish tend to be more shy. Most if not all of the fish in said lake or pond have never seen those before. Sometimes what seems like it won't work does.

There was a paddle tail worm back in the 70's called, JW's Ding a ling. Could be them. Who knows.
