Tranducer Beam Width

Featured Replies

Is the transducer what gives the depthfinder its scanning width?

For example if I have a depth finder that has a 20 degree beam width can I by a 60 degree beam transducer to increase

its the bottom scan? Will it change anything?

Just wondering.

Make and model of your unit? 20 degree cone angle is standard on most fresh water depth sonar units, not down scanning HD units. Objects outside of the 20 degree cone angle start to fade in return signal strength, the full signal strength is about 1/3rd the depth where the return signal occurs.

The transducer is part of the equation, the Head Unit must also have the software to support the additional or wider beam(s), as in the case of a dual beam or quad beam transducer.
