Abu Garcia Eon

Featured Replies

Does anybody remember this reel? I was rummaging through some storage and found this reel, new in the box. Apparently I was a tackle fiend even back in high school.

Anybody have any experience with this reel? It's still brand new, never fished... Like Christmas in October...

The Eon is a round reel, but obviously you know this. It's a decent reel, and I believe it sold for around $100.00 I'd mount it on a rod and give it a good workout.

Removed from the market quickly after coming out because of a couple of flaws in design. Had to do with the levelwind and clutch. Abu sent me a Pro Max in exchange. The design continued for a few years as the Eon Pro, a very expensive reel for the JDM.

Was that the weird planetary gear reel? I serviced a few a couple years ago - what a pain!

Yup, a great caster it could throw a 1/4oz a mile but you just never knew if the levelwind would engage after the cast.

I had one several years ago. Like 0119 said, a great caster but had some mechanical quirks. I ended up trading mine to a buddy (who loved it) for a 4600C.

Funny you mention that reel. I have one sitting on my rod rack.

First baitcaster l ever had was an EON when they first came out about 11 years ago. I had two, and never was comfortable with them.

These days one is in the box and the other on display with a couple of antique reels and lures on a bookshelf.
