Ever Knew A Knot Would Fail, And Yet You Fished It?

Featured Replies

I have never had a knot fail because I always take my time and do it right. If I doesn't pull together right I cut and retie. I have had my line break numerous times from nicks. But even at that I check my line every 10-15 minutes. It just takes a second.

I lost a fish a few years back due using the wrong knot. Fishing offshore the hot bite were amberjacks in the 40-50# range, we had boated a few. I was using 20# braid on spinning gear as I do most of the time, I had added some line to my reel, the knot gave out and I lost what I thought to be a very nice fish. Since that time, I've changed knots, I do join for my freshwater and inshore fishing, and when fishing offshore I do a complete respool when short on line. Things have gone well since then.

So glad you asked.

I say this all the time, because its SOOO true >

My knots NEVER fail, even though I tie all kinds of totally crappy knots ! {and the % seems to go up, the worse my eyesight gets... never remember my reading glasses}

So why do my knots never fail ? Because what I am really good at, is knowing how to recognize a crappy knot, when I have tied one. And then, NO, that knot will never get wet, because I will cut it off and re-tie it.... 3 or 4 X's if need be, until that knot is as clean, and pretty as the ones you see in those knot tying guides :)

I also won't use a hook that's not surgical sharp......

And I check my drag about 600 X's during a trip too.

OCD at its finest :)

Peace,

Fish
