Shimano Rod Question

Featured Replies

I was looking at the Shimano Crucial and new Cumara lines of crankbait rods with TC4. Both rods were the same taper, power, and had the same specs. The new Cumara was approx. $100.00 more than the Crucial.

What separates these two lines of rods and is the Cumara a $100.00 better rod than the Crucial? Any input would be appreciated.

If you are wanting a rod for crankbait fishing I would opt for the crucial and enjoy the savings. If this was a worm/jig rod I would say the difference in price would be justified as the cumara line utilizes a more sensitive and lighter blank. The blanks on the cumara bottom contact rods are supposed to be very impressive in terms of sensitivity and being true to power in their ratings.

The Cumara rods have always excelled at bottom contact techniques. With that said the Cumara Crankbait rod is going to be lighter and more sensitive and more then likely worth the extra money. Just my opinion.

The new Cumara's have a very nice blank to them and are very sensitive rods. The new Cumara's will be miles more sensitive than the Crucial's. With that said, I am totally on board with everyones advice. You are using it for moving baits, sensitivity helps in this department, but is more important for bottom contact techniques and the likes. I suggest you save that $100 and get the crucial, use that extra $100 for your bottom contact performer.

X2 great advice. Also note the Cumara was recently redesigned so sensitivity should be far greater.

Funny because I was at BPS yesterday and was holding the Crucial and the Compre side by side. The Crucial is lighter, but they almost look identical. I kno they are not, because ones IM9 and the other is 10. I wonder how different they are when using them.

I would go and get the Crucial over the Cumara and use that $100 you saved to spend towards a cranking reel or get a $100 worth of cranks.
