On a new rod I got for christmas, underneath the reel seat where the power, and lure/line listings are, there is no action on it. How will I know what the action is?

Some rods won't tell you the action. There is usually a code designation ex. Pcn661mfb or something to that effect based on the company they are different. You can type that into google and find a site that has the actions listed. Or you could lay the tip on the floor and bend it and compare it to rod action charts found on the Internet.

If you post the rod's model number, we can almost certainly tell you the action

See where the flex point is, middle is pretty much med power and the closer the flex point is to the tip the faster the rod is.
