Braid For Trout?

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried a small diameter braid on spinning gear and a leader for trout fishing and how did it work? I have always used 2 lb or 4 lb mono for small rivers and streams. I was wondering about using braid to eliminate the ocassional line twist. However, I don't want to spook fish, reduce casting distance, or inhibit action of jigs/ lures I throw.

Try 4-10lb berkley nanofil. Its a fused line, its as strong as regular braid and its completely clear.

Caught this one on 14# Fireline Fused:

Caught these on 6lb braid, 2lb diameter Sufix.  I was using 2lb mono and it was driving me nuts with twist plus I couldn't see the line even with reading glasses well enough to tie on my baits.

It's actually bright white, chartreuse, or low vis green. I believe they call the white color "clear mist" but it is not clear at all. I love the stuff and how easy it is to see the white line, I just add a short fluoro leader and the fish don't mind at all. Haven't gotten to use it for trout yet but I will be using it this year.

I do it. 3lb Fireline Crystal and 4lb leader. Or 8lb leader/8lb Spiderwire I have used before, but that was on 4lb+ river trout. I use Maxima Ultragreen or Berkley Vanish for leader.
