I know just enough, sometimes, to be dangerous so please forgive any follow on questions in advance.

 

I bought a used refridgerator.  It runs fine (gets cold) but the water dispenser and ice maker are not getting water up to them.  I checked the solonoids (1 for each function) for continuity and they appear to be fine.  There is water pressure in the line leading to the connection but stops after that.  I've checked for fuses and/or circuit breakers (none found) and I'm at a complete loss to identify what the problem is.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You've checked continuity, but have you checked for voltage?

or checked for a blocked or not installed filter.

We had very hard water in our last place, and lines and filters would clog quickly. Make sure the valve is physically opening and water passes through it, then check for flow down stream.

Just because it looks like it should work does not mean it will, even if you have voltage, continuity, the contacts in the relay may either be stuck or one of the contacts may be missing all together, the relay or relays may even click and sound as if they are working when in fact they are not.

 

The passage the relays open may be clogged as well, there is a very small port that allows the water to pass through so don't forget to check that as well.

I always look for the most simple problem first, like a clogged filter or water line. Most modern refrigerators have a filter that needs replaced every few months, these filters use activated charcoal or carbon, sometimes moving the fridge will damage the filter allowing the charcoal to clog the lines or the filter collapses and doesn't allow water flow

Sorry it's taken so long to respond.  And thanks for your responses.

 

Unless they are very cleverly hidden, I see no filters of any kind whatsoever on this fridge.  If one exists, where would it be (it's a kenmore fridge)?

 

I suppose it could be minerals clogging the line somewhere but there is no evidence of any deposits anywhere.

 

I've not checked for voltage yet.  If it's not getting voltage, what next?

 

Where is the relay switch on a Kenmore?

Go to sears website and find the manual for your model. Without a schematic I couldn't begin to tell u where to find the relay

I don't know about the relay switch, but the filter is usually seen from the outside below the door.  You may need to remove the black plastic grille beneath the door, or it may have a circular opening in the grill which allows you to change the filter.  It may look like this.

 

They are sometimes located behind a white panel inside the door at the top.

Most refrigerators that I've seen have a schematic either on the back or on the inside panel.
