Carolina Rig

Featured Replies

Can you Carolina rig when you don't have access to a fish find or gps...without knowing what structure is on the bottom...if so what would the best bait choice be

I do it all the time. The fact that I only have a canoe makes it not even worth it to buy a depth finder. I normally just fish the rig like I normally would and use the tungsten weight to feel the structure on the bottom. That's the beauty of the rig with the right rod you can feel just about everything down there. As for lures i will use a Jethro big toho ribbon tail worm in a June bug color hope this helps.

I've been back doing lots of c-rig this winter and I do from bank so obviously I do not know what's under there. (Well I kinda have an idea based on what's on the shore and previous experience.) Any soft bait is a good candidate. I sometimes use snap before the worm hook so that I can switch around different baits looking for what fish want that day.

You use the Carolina rig to find out what is on the bottom.

Some guys and the pros like to use a tungston weight to transmit the structure.

Others use lead weights and they say they can tell what is on the bottom.

As for baits, a creature bait like a lizard or a plastic worm.

As you progress with your Carolina rig experience you can add a crankbait.

great all around bait, i use a lead weight with glass bead. i like glass better. favorite lures are brush hawg or zoom lizard. use a decent offset hook to match the bait

Rage Eeliminator and Lizard are two that I use. I also like a heavy egg weight,

at least 1/2 oz, but usually 1 oz.

Like evey one said any soft bait and  some hard baits can be used. I use braid with a floro leader to get a better feel of  the bite, that way you wont get so many fish gut hooked.
