I went to the Yolo Basin wildlife preserve and flood control basin today, and Wow ! Talk about a ton of Snow geese ! I've never been there when they were coming through. I honestly don't know how many are in the preserve right now, but the flock I was photographing seemed like several hundred to maybe 1000 ? A Flock that was farther away looked twice as big.

 

Anyway, a few coming in...

Now that's a lotta' Snow geese, huh ? This makes a really cool desktop, if you want it.....

Note the one on the right center carrying the reeds.... and the darker grey one top center

Oh..... as an honorable mention.... I normally hate man made stuff in my wildlife photos. But I thought this old drainage pipe made for a very interesting BG, and the Egret was just so frilled up and posing, I think he wanted to be on Youtube or something LOL

You can make pretty good jerky out of them. Not as good as duck but I've eaten a lot worse.

So many snow geese now that they are actually destroying their nesting habitate on the tundra. They are not only feeding on the traditional vegatation, but because there large numbers they devour the root system of those plants for food, thus destroying their future source of food. New hunting laws in many states allow spring hunting  of snow geese to try to help control their over population.
