Jeff, if you plan to do above water plus underwater catch n release shots, you'll need to keep the full water proof housing on. If you plan to just shoot videos with commentary then use the waterproof housing with the skeleton door. They also have "The Frame" which houses your GoPro completely unprotected but allowing best sound capture. I would only recommend that if you're doing instructional videos similar to what Gene does. Even at that, the waterproof housing + skeleton door will work.

 

Another tip....if you do a lot of underwater shooting or dipping of the camera. Put rainx on your housing lens. It'll bead off nicely and you don't got to worry about water interfering with your above water shots.

Not sure if this was already mentioned or if you already knew this, but there is a program that GoPro made called "GoPro CineForm Studio". You can find it on GoPro's website for download, and it is also completely free. In this program you can put effects on your video, adjust the frame rate, put your video in very nice slow motion, etc. I played around with it a bit and it got the slow motion playing smooth as butter. It is a pretty simple program to use but there is a tutorial on it as well. Just a little tip in case anyone is interested.

If you want to do above and below with one cam this is where the kodak shines as its waterproof out of the box, no need for a case. HOWEVER, dont take it below 10ft.

 

If that go pro is truely waterproof in its case at any depth I would be taking it and attaching it to a rope or 80lb braid. Drop it down in some of my fishing holes and see exactly what it looks like down there.

I love watching fishing videos!.......especially of pickwick, since there are so few out there.

You could always add commentary in post. The make a wide array of USB microphones (ranging from inexpensive to unobtainable) that just plug into your computer allowing you to record your commentary and then lay it in once you edit down your video.

Looks pretty good to me. My first gopro video was when I strapped it to my 2 year old and set him loose at the playground. Made you seasick watching it but it was a pretty cool perspective to say the least.

Big O, I'm bringing mine down, so lets get yours all charged up, too, and we'll have a couple different angles to record and play around with. Just make sure you get the biggest SD card available!

Buy a few batteries too. One doesn't last a day on the water.especially for the amount of mules you guys catch.

I have a 32G and i think i can get around 4 hours give or take on mine.  One suggestion i would make is to start and stop the camera periodically.  Otherwise you will be wathcing a whole lot of blank footage to get to the good stuff.  I usually turn mine on and off between areas that i am working so as i am going through the videos it will be easier to determine when i caught some fish.

 

I am still figuring out all the nuances of using one but it has been fun so far.

Good video flyfisher, but try and get a mount for your yak or something.  The head mount was too "blair witchy" for me!  4 casts in a row is ridiculous!  Nice catching!
