Need A New Reel

Featured Replies

I was wanting to buy a new reel for bass fishing, I have been using cheap wal-mart ones I have a nice little pole that I use for crappie but it doesn't hold those bigger bass. I prefer bait caster's, Im on about a $100 budget. Any ideas??

How close do you want to stay to that budget? Like 130-160 close?

If you want to stay right at 100 dollars then your best best is to go with the Bass Pro, Pro Qualifier. Dual breaking system, smooth, well built and has a proven track record of lasting.

Right now Bass Pro has the Pro Qualifier combo on sale for 99 dollars. Rod and reel. The rod is ok, much better than what your probably using, but will do just about anything you need it to.

Plus bass pro has a coupon code VISIT20GC. 20 dollar gift card for 100 dollars spent online. Have it shipped to your local BP and it's free. Take that 20 dollars and get some line.

There are some great other set ups out there, but that by far with the sale and code has got to be the best out there right now.

Yea, honestly i prefer to go with quality so i'll shell out a little more if its recommended.

AbuGarcia will get it done with  BlackMax or SilverMax reel. Pair it up with a 6ft6in rod from abugarcia also. These are both available at walmart.

I edited my post with some more details. The above reel is a damned good reel. I have two and I dare find someone that will not agree its a quality reel.

Also are you just looking for a reel or a rod as well? And your budget is $100 for both? Now what kind of stores are near you and can you order online?

I will spend no more than $200 for both and theres a cabelas and bass pro about 40 miles away and I can order online

FWIW, you can find a Daiwa Lexa 100 on eBay for about $105-110. I took the plunge for one and it's my new fav. Excellent reel for the money.

Sounds perfect to me at the pricing point you have in mind.

Citica and a Lightning Shock rod.

Citica and a Lightning Shock rod.
X2 I love my Citica.

BPS Pro Qualifier. Hands down. If you can bump up the budget a little more, get a Shimano Citica or Abu Revo S. You should be happy with any of those reels.

Thanks everyone I've been looking at them and my mother said she had a $50 gift card to bass pro so I went ahead and ordered the Pro Qualifier!

Good grab. You won't be disappointed. If you ever decide to upgrade or sell it, the flea market here is a great place. It will sell fast!

Smart choice.  I just purchased 5 when they were $80 bucks a piece.  Awesome reels.

another possibility for people on a budget about 110 total from academy

Nice grab. I picked up 2 for Christmas and I am really impressed with them. For $100 I think they're a steal.
