Lew's Reel Suggestion

Featured Replies

I'm getting new reels this year and was curious if you think if a Lews BB-1 ($160) is worth the extra $60 over a Lews Speed Spool ($100). Please only comment if you have used these reels. I am going to buy 6+ so the $60 makes a big difference. Thanks

I have 2 of the  $100.00 Lews reels and love them.  I don't see the need to spend the extra money.  Use it to help fund a new rod to use.

I wouldnt spend the extra 60. Unless you are looking for a larger spool which I think the BB has, everything else is going to be on the SS. I love my Speed Spools, really for the price, it is a great freaking reel.

if money isnt an issue, well then spend the extra 60.

I would save that money and buy some nice quality line!

I have used both, and I would purchase the speed spool because it is really all you need.

The bb1 can be had at $129 shipped all day long. Just get on ebay. The speed spool for $80. I owned a speed spool and sold it a few days later. It was ok but not as nice as my bb1 and definetly nowhere near as nice as my tournament pro's. which can be bought at $155 shipped. The regular tournament can be had for $120. I currently own 2 tournament pros,2 tournaments,1 bb1***,1 tournament mg and that's just because it was my only choice. It'll be sold and replaced with a bb1.

I'd buy 6 of the tournament models if they all had to match but personally I'd get a few of each. I can give you the sellers name I go through. If you let them know you're buying 5-6 then you may even get a better deal. Also why not mix it up? Get a tournament pro or 2,a bb1,a regular tournament or 2.

Why do you need to buy the same model ? Buy one of each and then decide what the next 4 plus will be. The 99.00 model has an aluminum frame and would make a great reel for spinnerbaits. It's a win win scenario. I can't actually comment on the standard speed spool, I don't own one. I do have MG, TS, TP, Super Duty and BB1 models. Just a thought.

The speed spools do not have dual breaking unless you really don't care about that. Also the BB1 have only centrifugal breaking and no magnetic. For my self I would buy at least a tournament speed spool or better. I have 4 lews reels but currently do not have a BB1 yet as it is still winter. In about a month or so I will definitely be ordering one.
