Lew's Reel Suggestion
I'm getting new reels this year and was curious if you think if a Lews BB-1 ($160) is worth the extra $60 over a Lews Speed Spool ($100). Please only comment if you have used these reels. I am going to buy 6+ so the $60 makes a big difference. Thanks

Feminized male Bass?
Doubtful. Discharge from toilets, sinks, etc. do not go from the drain directly into waterways. It goes through sewage treatment plants that for the most part disharge water into waterways that is cleaner than what is naturally in the waterway to begin with. Mmm not doubtful.. I was being a little sarcastic, but the Potomac is considered one of the dirtiest rivers in the US, especially the Upper and DC, where they are finding all the intersex bass. Of course there is filtering, but lets be honest.. ever heard of a doo-doo pipe? They are all over the Upper Potomac near my school. What comes out of there does not look, or smell good. I am not a ichthyologist, but there are many at my school, and they will tell you that the increasing use of womens birth control is the main reason. There are some other issues like chemicals coming off of certain plastics, but thats small talk. There was an article done in FLW about a year ago on intersex bass in the Upper Potomac. It explained the whole issue pretty well. Well, I am going swimming there today. Hopefully I don't get eggs!

Feminized male Bass?
My school is located on the Upper Potomac River - lots of college girls use BC. All toilets flush into the Potomac. Therefore you get tons of male smallmouths with eggs inside. The upper Potomac was one of the first places they discovered this. pretty crazy if you think about the whole concept

New Flip / Pitch rod choices
haha dan you made me laugh really hard. back to the topic, are you looking for a rod to pitch around docks, scattered grass, trees, and any other type of sparse cover... or are you looking to punch through mats or any "jungle like" cover? If you want an all around pitching rod for average cover/structure, I have been using the 7'H Falcon Bucoo recently, and REEEEALLY like it ($119.99). If your going to be needing a rod for matted hydrilla or other vegetation, definitely step up to a 7'6". No suggestion on the 7'6", have not found a rod I am too too fond of for under $150, but I do know that Falcon is eventually coming out with a 7'6" BuCoo model that will get the job done.

does anyone fish after 2 a.m.?
I have had some of the best times fishing little ponds at 3 in the morning catching giant after giant.. One pond I fish at night is probably only about 100yrds long by 50yrds, and if you don't catch 50+ LM's in an hour or 2, your doing something wrong. Don't forget to bring your black spinnerbaits with a single colorado blade and your all black walking baits.

How would y'all fish this pond?
3/8oz black/blue jig with a paca chunk trailer and flip around every single pad. bring your big stick

GYB Fat Ika
anyone know any bait that is similar to the fat ika by yamamoto? I see they are $7 now, and I am not trying to pay that for 10...

When to consider yourself a Pro?
Your pro when you can pay your bills with fishing / people pay you to fish.

My First Tourney
yeah, start small. im guessing its a club tournament? if so good. I started out fishing a BASS weekend series. huge mistake. looking back it was a good thing because it was a reality check. but just go out there and fish. you have nothing to prove. you've already proved you have a passion. everyone has great days and horrible days. if you fish and have fun your day will be great. ;D

what size hooks for ri smallie sweet beaver
2... or 3 ... i like the 2 imo if you are rigging with a bullet weight. I would go with a 1/4oz tungsten bullet weight to give that small compact profile, but i think a smallie beaver works best on a 3/16th - 1/4oz spot remover jig head. you can even go as small as 1/8oz... always depends on the situation.

Drop Shot from Shore? - Thoughts ?
works great for bedding bass when walking around a pond/lake. when you cast it out though it is almost like a carolina rig but more effective at times. try drop shotting from shore late at night too. its harder for the bass to see you, and you can get some real giants. dont be scared to beef up your line at night either.

Sleep Advice
Oh wow I have the same prob. I get too excited. I could lay down for bed at 9pm, and not fall asleep till 2am. Happens about everytime for tournaments. I have done better though the last two though. Instead of prepping for the tournament all day friday for my saturday tourney, I did it on monday. Also, get in a good sleep habit. The monday I prepared, I also prepared getting in my sleep habit. I went to bed at 9pm, woke up at 5am.. I did that for the next 4 days. Helped a lot. I suffer from minor minor epilepsy, so i need about 8 hour minimum every night or my day is all messed up. Another thing, earplugs. Helps take away distracting noises and lets you focus on breathing. Hope this helps, helped me on the last two. best of luck, I know how frustrating it can be.

Lost the fish of a lifetime!
yea, still great fish none the less.. i know that feeling where you miss an absolute giant, and then a 4lb does not even matter... just makes you want to fish more though, and that's what the sport is all about

Falcon BuCoo
Uncle Leo is spot on. Falcon's generally aren't as fast or powerful versus other brands of the same power rating. I would go up at least one power rating. FYI....the Bucoo is said to be the Falcon Original blank packaged in a split grip format. i have all 3 series of rods and i agree with the Original not being as fast as others. it is IMO still a good entry level rod for lighter finesse plastics. my Lowrider is a M/M so its hard to compare speed. the Cara T7 seems to be plenty fast. ive only tossed 5/16 oz jigs on the rod but id say theres a good tip there. on the other hand, ive yet to use a really good heavy jig rod.......so... define "said to be". like...you read a post from someone ? or you talked directly to falcon? I talk directly to falcon and got the all the info. I also use the originals too, and can tell you from first hand exp. Its different graphite

Falcon BuCoo
its not soft... i guess everyone has different preferences, but i set the hook and pulled in a bass no problem on a 3/8oz jig today..

Falcon BuCoo
finally returned from vacation and got my BuCoos. I think the 7MH is fine!.. very very light-weight and sensitive. A lot more than my falc originals. And for those who say it is the same blank as an original, it is not. the 7MH Bucoo is probably more suited for smaller soft plastics rather than jigs, but I will post tomorrow when I set the hook on one.
