Picked one up today and was wondering if someone had some experience throwing these.

Whats a good time of season to throw them. Whats a good retrieve...Shallow or Deep? Fast or slow?

What works best?

I would throw it every where a baby bass would not venture out to...off points, edge of weed lines, drop offs, really anywhere away from the bank.

in my experience , baby bass stay in close to banks and in and around cover . i wold cast it out parallel  to the bank  and twitch it around cover with a slow retrieve . also if you can get it out over the tops of grass by the banks would be good for big fish to ambush from below . what sink rate did you get ???

That was my point. they never venture out...I believe Matt told me that as well.

Like Soccplayer said, the point is to get the bait where baby bass are not supposed to venture.

This makes it appear confused, injured, vulnerable....all the things that make big bass lick their chops.

Open water, on or around structure.

*** Correction*** The Hard Baits have different sink rates, The one I have and the one im asking about is the soft version.

I like to fish them anytime I see schools of fish busting shad on the surface in open water. The largest bass often sit on the bottom and pick up the falling shad that the schooling fish have killed or injured. I don't give them much action at all. I just let it sink to the bottom and drag it behind the drifting boat.  If the surface is calm, I'll reel it in very slowly and give it an occasional twitch or hop. The bite is usually very subtle, the line suddenly just feels heavier. Mattshads work well for this too.
