LOL, that's so true!  I was fishing a tx, and had like 17 lbs. in the well. One of the other guys has two 13" fish on a beam, one shakes off, and fall into the drink.  Lots of cussing ensued.  We laughed, and yelled over, "having a bad day?"  I think we've all had similar days.

I do that too only white, white aint right.

I learned this lesson the hard way last year (my 1st year tournament fishing).

 

I was on a lake which had a ton of keepers but nothing to call home about.  I caught a limit fast and then culled at least a dozen more times that day.  Each time I was dealing with ounces of difference.  Sometimes as little as 1oz.  I felt like I wasted a ton of time weighing them just to bump up an ounce here and there if at all.

 

My thought was that those little ounces would add up somehow.  

 

My boater however caught his limit very fast and also kept catching fish.  The difference was that he eyed the fish and threw them back asap and kept fishing.  "Ounces ain't gonna cut it!  I'm looking for that kicker fish"  was his exact words.

 

I guess I will learn with experience.

3oz difference on 5 fish is almost a pound. I doubt most people could tell a 2.11 from a 2.14 on a quick glance. I sure would hate to lose by a few oz and then have to wonder if I would have took a couple extra seconds to make sure I am weighing in my heaviest fish that I may have won.

I'm with you.  It's what I did last year but fishing with these guys (my league) and watching none of them do it made begin second guessing my methods.

I've done the scale thing and it seems that everytime I put the fish on it the weight is different...which is irritating when you've got 5 fish all about the same size. I'm going to go to a beam in the future. Even if I have to check every fish it'll be quicker than waiting for the scale...at least the scale that I have.

 

I've lost by 3oz before and it's not fun. I'll take the little extra time.
