Alright. I didn't realize that feeling in the store and when I got back to my house I realized that it was grinding.

probably to much grease.

I don't usually service reels. So I don't know what to use. I'm gunna take it back & if the new one feels the same I'll keep the other one and clean and lube it up.

I've never heard of an over lubed reel with a rough feeling. Something may be out of place or a defect. They will gladly exchange it.

Alright. What about the pflueger president I just bought. It feels a little off as well.

When I buy new baitcast reels I crank the drag down so nothing slips and then hold my thumb next to the top edge of the spool to provide resistance, but keep it off the whiffle holes in the spool, and then crank away. If the reel is going to feel rough it will do it right then.

I did that when I got home and it stills feels rough. So I'm taking it back tomorrow or Tuesday.

I do this at the store before I buy it. Helps me to know what it might feel like reeling under the weight of a large spinnerbait or a deep diving crankbait. Otherwise you'd have to put line on it and actually fish it to know.
