Tuf-Line Supercast

Recommended Posts

So like many of you, I got a spool of Tuf-Line Supercast.

http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/113671-new-tuf-line-supercast-free-line-offer/

I got the 12lb(6lb equiv) and spooled it up on my Stradic Ci4 2500 paired with a Pinnacle Perfecta 70 ML/F.  My first impression was that it was somewhat limp and flexible. Much more so than the cheaper braids I have tried, but no quite as much as the more expensive one I have been using.  But for spinning rods, I came to find out this is a GREAT thing.  I fished all day with it today, catching 12 bass.  Not the first tip-wrap.  So if you are looking for a braid for a spinning rod to eliminate tip wrap, this is it.

Secondly, it took well to a leader.  I tied a modified albright knot to connect my 6lb Seaguar Invisx leader.  No problems with that either.  Thirdly, was that I noticed how quiet it was.  Not only am I used to braid being noisy on retrieves, but also when fighting a fish.  Not with this braid.  Smooth and quiet.

Lastly I will leave with this, I am not afraid to admit, that I set the hook into what I would assume was a big ole log.  The reason I assume was I do not know, as it never moved, and I did not get my shakey head back.  But what I do know is that it took a ton of effort to break of.  And while I admit that I do not fish braid that often, I do know that when you pull hard to get something un-hung or just to break off, that the line usually digs into itself causing a mess, kink, or tough spot in the line.  This one did not.  While this is just my opinion of day 1, I look forward to seeing how it does on future trips!

Haven't received mine yet, and couldn't fish it if it were to arrive tomorrow.  If you read the specs on the line, you will find it is not a true braid which is one of the reasons it isn't as thin for its rating as a true braid.

Thanks for the review.  I also suspect given its makeup that it will not snap off lures like braid will on sudden stops.

Thanks for writing the review. I'm looking forward to mine arriving even more so. I also went with the 12lb to throw on a spinning setup.

What in the specs of this line indicate it isn't a true braid?

I haven't gotten my 20lb yet.  I don't recall having any of my present braided lines wrapping around the tip while bass fishing, but it's happened many many times for other types of fishing, even more so with mono.  IMO this is caused by severe line twist, I plan on using this line with the lures that do create severe line twist (spinning type lures).

I'm not in the least bit concerned over the larger diameter, for me the reduced spool capacity is not significant enough to worry about.  Breaking strength is difficult to determine, I see numbers all over the map with all brands of lines with no real constancy, again no concern as most lines break well over their labeled number strength, I'll be targeting 20# + fish.  All I have to do now is get a strike, lol

Equipment:

Tuf-Line Super-Cast #20

Pinnacle Optimus XLT/ Perfecta DHC

Red Eye Shad

The line is a unique braided composite. The ouside is slick, extending casting distance

by more than 10%. The finish eliminates the "noise" associated with all other brands of

braid. There are no knot issues. Actual breaking strength is 32 lbs.

Yesterday was the first time I had fished the line. My initial assessment is a dead solid 10.

I thought I remembered reading that braid had been wrapped around a special inner line.  Had to look it up and it seems my memory ain't what it should be.  It has a special outer coating.  Whether this is oil soaked into the line, is dipped in beeswax or whatever,  Notice it is a bi-component process.

So apparently Supercast has an additional coating not on other superlines which one would assume to increase line diameter since it has a larger diameter than normal braids for a given size.  Regardless my initial post was not 100% accurate.  My apologies.

I'm looking forward to trying this line, met them at the classic expo. The line felt really round and smooth.

Mine arrived today.  I have high hopes for it after reading the 2 previous reviews.

Just got mine in the mail today. You can immediately tell it's not like other braid. It's real smooth....you can tell it has a coating on it. After running it between my fingernails with some pressure it makes it feel rougher and the color becomes lighter....but even then it's still pretty smooth compared to most braids. I don't think that would have any effect on the integrity of the line of course. It's on the limp side but not extremely limp like some braid (that might be nice for the smaller diameter lines on spinning gear). I can imagine this line being quieter due to the slickness of it. Interesting stuff. I can see myself liking this line although I haven't had the chance to really test it just yet. I wish they'd let you do 2 samples per household because I'd like to try the 12lb on a spinning reel too.
