Flippin' Jigs

Featured Replies

Not really. I mean yea, everyone has a preference. I mainly just go on who has the right weight and color im looking for.

I will say that i have caught more fish on Hawg Thrasher jigs though.

to me it does...

each company uses different skirts, strand counts, hooks, colors, head shapes, etc...

I like Outkast RT jigs for penetrating think cover.  For more sparse grass, their Pro Staff jig works well.  I generally go with blue/black, but on some waters, bluegill or pumpkinseed patterns are better.

I make my own, but for flippin grass I go with a 3/8 or 1/2 bullet style. For pitchin around wood, docks or rock I go w/ a 1/4 football. For finesse or spawning I go with a 3/16 football w/ single wire guard. For colors, all black, brown orange or green pumpkin.

colors mentioned are perfect.  Strike King, Booyah and Terminator get some good comments on this forum.  Good brush guard and big heavy hook are a must.

I go with custom made ones. Less than $3 average each with Owner hooks and i get them exactly how i want them. Number of strands, material, hooks, color scheme ratios, rattles etc.

Oldham's Jigs are the most effective heavy cover jigs made  ;)

I agree going with custom ones. I've been using my own for 15 yrs. I started selling them about 6 years ago. People want quality baits for a price they don't mind losing to the rocks and wood. You can get high quality jig for 1.75 as opposed to 3-5. Besides, it's nice catching fish on your own stuff.
