I was at walmart tonite and was in the fishing section when I noticed the clearance section I ended up geting a spool of trilene 100% FC for 4 dollars question is if it is to light for a baitcaster any input would be great thanks

Ive never used 8# fluoro on, for comparisons sake, a 200 size shimano but i do use it on a 50 size with no issues. Works great for spring jerkbaits.

Yup I was going to say use it for jerkbaits. I got 8lb an a curado 100b and it works great for jerk baits.

No.  My standard is 12# on my MH rods, and 8# on my Medium rods.  Have no problem with the 8# whatsoever.  I use mono.  Not sure if I would trust 8# fluro based on TT's test results for knot strength with fluoro.

It was too good of a deal worst comes to worst I use it for leaders finesse fishing I never thought about jerkbaits I normally throw those with 40# power pro

I would suggest that you first put on 12# test as a backing, then using a blood knot attach the 8# and put on the 100 yds of the FC that that package has.  This way the reel is fully spooled and you don't waste any line.

I have used 8lb floro on a regular Lews Speed Spool and a Revo S and have had no issues with it. Would probably gotten more distance out of it if i had put it on a Lews TP or lighter reel. I still use 8 and 10 lb mono on the speed spool.

FWIW, my dad uses 6 pound Vanish fluoro on a spincast reel and when he gets snagged he can't even pull until it breaks to get loose. It just won't snap. We have to cut the line or retrieve the lure to get loose. Knot strength seems fine. We tie the speed knot, similar to the Eugene knot, which I read was necessary with fluoro line to keep from slipping.

Sure, why not? I used 8 lb on an Accurist. Worked great, caught plenty of bass. No reason you can't.

I know a few guys that run 4 and 5 pound floro on their pixies for finesse fishing. Personally I haven't gone under 10# floro on a casting reel yet, as the lakes I frequent have some fairly thick cover throughout the year.

I see know reason why 8# wouldn't work given the right conditions and spool size.

I find 8# is my "Goldilocks" line.....not too light (like 6#) and not too heavy, (like 10#)

 

I have it spooled on my Curado 50E, Daiwa SOL, Pixies (but also go to 6#) and Steez.

 

I use them all for Medium cranks, Pointers, jigs, and shakey heads.  All around good size.

 

I find it a good compromise of strength and casting ability.
