Anybody Want A St. Croix Xtreme? 2012 Models 50% Off (<$190)

Featured Replies

St. Croix fans....there's a few Legend Xtreme casting rods (2012 models) that are priced half off. Great deal if you ask me. I also believe that this will fall under the buy 2 get 1 rage rod free program, but I will let you guys figure this one out.

There are only three models and who knows how much longer until they are gone. These are probably the best rods you will find in the less than $200 price range.

Does anybody have any comments on the XC72MHM/12 and how it compares against a Dobyns 705CBGlass? I need a cranking stick and this might be the ticket.

Edited due to iabass8's comments. (thanks!)

I only held the 72MM and did not like the feel for it. It would be great at 1/4 oz baits but it just wasn't for me. The 72MHM is a thing of beauty for 1/4-3/4 squarebills/lipless baits.

Comparing the xtreme to the 705glass isn't really a "fair" comparison as one is glass. Even though I have become a big Dobyns fan as of late, the xtreme xf tips and moderate actions are too good to give up. If I didn't already have one, the 72MHM would be bought up quick.

Bargain area rods aren't offered in the current rage rod promotion.

Thank you! How does the 72MHM balance? And could it be used for some jerkbait/topwater duties in a pinch? I need a very versatile cranking stick.

I appreciate the help.

I just ordered the 7'2MM for squarebills, its rated for 14lb max (assuming its .38mm mono) I'm throwing on 15lb Seaguar invisx (which is .33mm) and matchin with a gen 3 winch

Its a very lightweight rod. I use a chronarch 51mg on mine and it feels great. Not very top heavy. I use this rod tip down most of the time so it really isnt a concern. I have used (i believe dwight uses this same rod as a jerkbait rod) for jerkbaits. While it did a great job, i still prefer a 68-610 for jerkbaits. The 72mhm is a VERY versarile crank/trap/jerkbait rod.

Thank you very much for sharing that information with me. I may just pick this one up considering the price it is at. I really need a cranking stick and this seems to come at a convenient time.

Ya, I'm excited to get it in the mail, I was literally 2 sec away from ordering the LTB Small Cranker and got a better rod for $80 less

Got my XC72MHM in a couple days ago. Bought it based on a strong recommendation that Dwight posted in another thread.

It works, catches fish...

You will be happier with the xtreme 72mm rather than the small cranker. Its a wet noodle of a rod.

THB I like whippy rods when it comes to fishing squarebills, more forgiving on the hook sets

Capt.Bob - did you already get the Rage spinning rod?  How long was the wait time after you mailed the paperwork?

I bought the 2 Extremes XC72MHM, and XC610MXF, and told them I wanted the rage in a RS610MXF spinning rod, and they all came at the same time on the same Fed EX truck, 3 days later! I ordered direct from Croix, ext 115 Ken! $409.00 total, now all I have to do is sell the Rage!! :Victory:

I was thinking on picking one up for for my wife, she needs an upgrade for the MHM

The 72MHM is a very sweet stick. And as iabass8 mentions very versatile for any treble hook bait applications. I also have the 6'10" spinning rod MLXF for drop shotting. Super stick too.

I ordered the XC610MXF. Can't wait to try it. Can't go wrong with an Xtreme for half price.

pshh the 6'9mlxf is/was better :laugh5: . Praying mine never brakes. I'm a big fan of cork and a cork foregrip. the new one isn't that bad though.

  • 2 weeks later...

just a heads-up for folks who are late to the party, the St Croix rage promotion ended march 16
