Hard Jerkbaits --Not Suspending

Featured Replies

I've fished Smithwick's Rattlin Rogue jerkbaits for a long time. However, in windy conditions they are a little light and tend to sail.

Looking for a jerkbait similar to the Rogue that floats and dives a foot or two under the water--and is a little heavier without being a lot longer.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think the KVD Wild Shiner is available as a floater...

You could weight it a little around the front hook or a little behind it.  Not enough to make it suspend, but enough to punch thru the wind better.

Rapala's new Flat Rap. Balsa with the long cast type thing going on, shallow diver, comes in two sizes. I can't wait for summer to try the smaller size out on river Smallmouth's.

Not sure I can get enough weight to do the job. Also,I primarily fish the rogue over down horizontal timber that often is a foot or two under water.

Because of the density of timber, both standing and down, pitching the rogue is often the rule.

I have the smaller one 1/4 oz, it casts a mile and has great action. The bass almost seem to like it as  much as me.
