Need some shakey head help

Featured Replies

Can anyone explain to me how to fish a shakey head rig please

You stick a soft plastic bait (usually a Trick Worm or similar bait), on a jig head, and fish it by working it into your target area, and stopping where you want it, and twitching your rod tip to give the bait a dancing in place effect. It's killer, and I found that lizards work pretty sweet for this as well.

Suggestions:

1.  Read articles on this site about shaky head.

2.  Go where Roadwarrior tells you to go and read the article and watch the video.

3.  YouTube shaky head and see the videos.

It is a simple, but deadly, rig.

There are many ball head jigs out there for your to select among, from the cheap ball heads to the beautiful ones from Megastrike.

Give the technique a try and you may be surprised.  ;)

Great advise. 8-) I read about it for a year or two before giving it a chance. :-? When fishing is slow it has become my go-to technique. Some will say that as a finesse technique it is more of a small fish bait. This has not been my experience. My biggest fish so far this year was taken on a Zoom Trickworm/1/8 oz Spot Stalker shakey head. Good luck.

all of the above, I mix it up. sometimes I drag, some times i hop it. this is probably been my most productive bait to fish this year.

yes, you can fish it like a normal jig, as you described. but also try shaking it in place. a soft tip will make this easier. try to rock the jig a little and pause. this will cause the tail to shake. practice in shallow clear water where you can see the bait.

i also like the Shake2 jig recommend above.

I usually keep the rod between ~30-45 degrees (from horizontal). Shaking it while trying to keep it in place, and/or shaking it while dragging it along works well. Hop it, pop it , it's all good. ;)
