Revo S Or Revo Sx

Featured Replies

I see alot of people comparing the S to the STX, but what about the SX? After using my Revo S a few times it feels good at times, but then there are times if feels like its grinding. So, I am going to return it. Not sure if I wanna just get another S or try to upgrade to the SX. Ive seen so many good reviews for the S, I am thinking i got a sour one. What are the big differences? Is the SX worth the extra $30? What yall think?

If you can live with mag brakes then I say go for the sx. I have the s and stx and am thinking hard about getting an sx myself. No issues with any of my revos though.

I have both and the s is just as nice a reel I think. Mine is really smooth and spins for a long time. I got the sx because I wanted a 7:1 reel. Both great reels though. Just ask the clerk to compare some before buying.

It depends on what youre going to use the S or the SX for, if ur gonna cast crankbaits or jerkbaits get the S because of the centrifugal braking.

If ur going to Flip/Pitch/Punch get the SX for the Magnetic brakes.

Either reel would be great. The S with a Boca Bearing upgrade is just unbelievable. I got to see and handle one this past weekend and it was just amazing.

Could you elaborate on this boca bearing upgrade? What, where, how?

The S' casting distance is crazy right outta the box. If it's drastically better with the ceramic bearings, I may order one set for my S and one set for my STX.

I have both. I give overall fishability to the Revo S. The SX is a good reel, it just seems to be a lot more finicky of a caster due to the mag brakes. I use it for 3/8 oz jigs mainly. So i dont have to adjust it all that often. Once it is adjusted to the right specs, its a good caster. Just not as forgiving as a lot of other reels i own. My only negative with the S is that its loud, and on my 4th outing i had a horrible grinding feel, and it sounded just as bad. I brought it home and gave it a bearing flush and a good cleaning. It was fine for a few outings and it happened again. I cleaned and lubed again and havent had a problem since. Seems like the more i use it the better it has gotten. The only reason i got the SX instead of another S was i wanted a 7.1:1 gear.

From what I am reading, I think I may go with the S for my top water and cranking setup which I only use around 20% of the time. Keep my 2 STX's for flipping and light plastics. I'de love to have an all STX arsenal but going S on 2 of my setups saves me $140.

I have several S models and like them. One model I got that I am thoroughly impressed with is the Orra SX. It's a heck of a reel and a little cheaper. I returned a Revo SX. Just like the S better.

With the S, you can cast sloppy all you want. That's why I like the S and especially the STX. They are very forgiving. I have a new SX on the way, so we will see if I can get it dialed in as good as my old Black Max 2 was. If I can, then I'll be good to go but centrifugal brakes are just too hard to beat.
